It's time for some ring porn!

Beautiful August., on December 2, 2010 at 8:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 97

I've noticed that are are a lot of new ladies on here. Maybe it's because some guys propose more during the holiday season. With that in mind, show em off ladies. Let's see some rings!! Here's mine. The second picture shows DS ring too.

Cheryl, that ring is gorgeous! If I remember correctly, your FS had it custom made, right?

@Cheryl, no it isn't. I didn't want to do that. I want to be able to show the individualism of each ring. The jeweler did mention the idea, but I wasn't for it.

@2d, I love the classic and timeless beauty in your rings. Very traditional. I thought about getting just a band, something similar to DS, but he didn't really like the idea. He said that's why he bought me the ring I have, so that I can show it off. Maybe I can still get it and just wear it on my other ring finger.

@BeautifulAugust..thanks! I took the pic myself. Tee hat is actually one from Dodger Barbie which I originally purchased to put on our cake topper's groom but it was too big. Smiley smile

Not the best quality picture; it was taken with my cell phone.... maybe I will take some more soon.

It's on my 3rd finger because it hadn't been resized yet and was way too big.

And I love everybody else's gorgeous rings Smiley smile It's nice to see all the different styles.

This is the ring I *found* in favorites on our laptop. Hope it's for me and not his "bit on the side" Smiley winking

@Beautiful August.: Thank you! NotFroofy inherited the ring she gave me from her grandmother. NotFroofy's grandmother was a socialist, and a bit of a rebel. She got married a day before her husband went off to India with British forces. In those days, her employer did not allow married women to continue employment, and she had several younger siblings to support. She and her husband got a special license to allow the wedding to be performed without the usual waiting period and to be kept secret. In the early part of her marriage, the only time she could wear her wedding ring was on walks on Sundays with her mother, so that her employer would not find out about it. Someone eventually made an anonymous report to her employer about her marriage. At that point, her employer made a special exception to its rules to permit her to go on working until her husband's return.

Thus, her ring has not only family significance, but a connection to another wedding that was "forbidden" in its time but ended up lasting until the death of one of the parties.

Amusingly, after NotFroofy's grandfather's death, NotFroofy's grandmother made reference to next time, marrying "a nice sensible woman." I'm not sure whether I qualify as "sensible," but I like the idea. ;-)

NotFroofy wanted a matching ring. We looked in local stores, but they told us that NotFroofy's grandmother's ring was 22 karat gold, and rings just aren't made with that in this country. NotFroofy was prepared to compromise on a similar 18 karat ring. However, I secretly started checking out rings on eBay UK. I figured that if NotFroofy's grandmother back in Wales had a 22 karat ring, other British brides must have them. I ended up finding a ring from the same era as NotFroofy's grandmother's.
