Italian food at reception?

*Mrs_D*, on July 16, 2013 at 11:03 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

My fiance and I have just started doing taste testing for our wedding reception food, and we fell in love with an family owned italian restaurant that does catering. The food is delicious and the owner is an amazing guy. This might be a stupid question due to false perceptions, but what is everyone's thoughts on italian food for reception dining? When my sister got married several years ago, I remember her talking down to italian food and making it seem like tacky food to serve at a wedding. Is this just some misconception I have? Or is italian food something to stay away from?

Thanks, guys!

I would love it.. But I'm also Italian and think you can't go wrong with a delicious pasta and sauce!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with serving Italian food at the wedding. I think it's kind of generic but definitely don't think it's tacky. If I went to a wedding and they had Italian food, as long as it was good I wouldn't care. People can have a menu with steak and chicken and it can taste like crap and I would much prefer Italian that tastes good!

I see nothing wrong with serving Italian food. Almost everyone I know likes it, so it's an easy choice and pleases almost everyone.

Most catering places do offer like a carved meat station that you can add on for people who don't necessarily like Italian or would just rather have a different meat.

If it's yummy why is this a debate? I'd rather have yummy Italian food than crappy new avant garde amuse bouche!

Who doesn't like Italian food! Just make sure they have options for folks with food allergies (especially gluten as that's sometimes a tough one for Italian food), vegetarian options, etc.

I love Italian food!! Only downside I could think of is that it could be kinda messy (I always heard never order pasta on a first date..lol) but I'm serving barbecued chicken at my wedding, so what do I care about messy?! LOL! Serve what YOU want, doll! Smiley smile

I'm marrying into an Italian family. If there wasn't any Italian... They might have a heart attack. Haha. Prosciutto and cheeses and calamari for cocktail hour, and the international coffee station with cordials are an absolute must for us.

I'm not a huge Italian food person but I would eat it and not complain. I think we all have to keep in mind we can't please everyone. If the food is good and you think the majority of your guests will like it, I say it's fine.

I love it, but afterward I feel overly full from it. It may make your guests a little groggy/ not wanting to dance until they digest.

I like Italian food, it's delicious and filling and I think it's rather elegant...I say go with it.

I think we will go with the Italian buffet. Just looks the most delicious out of all of our choices.
