It Would Be the Worst!

Meredith, on August 28, 2019 at 11:01 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 56
What is the worst thing that could happen at your wedding? I mean, what's the worst 'wedding horror story' you've heard? Mine would be that a past girlfriend of Dave's came & professed her love for him, he did likewise, & they ran off together. Not that that would happen. All these are hypothetical things, NOT going to happen!!!

My worst fear is my FHs now estranged brother decides at the last minute to come, gets drunk, and makes a scene.

I was really hoping we didn't have a boat load of extra guests. My friends told me about their weddings they had or have been a part of where there were so many extra guests who showed up uninvited that they had to roll out more tables and chairs for them.

My bio-father (who is not in my life and has not been for years) finds out he is not invited to the wedding and my step-dad (who I have called my dad since I was very young) was walking me down the aisle, shows up and causes a scene.

I had a dream the other day that we forgot to buy fairy lights and smaller lamps and when they turned off the big overhead lights literally the only light source was a single strand of Christmas lights 20 feet up in the ceiling. So that would be terrible, but also pretty avoidable haha

You can have someone (a big guy preferably) at the door with the photos of people you think might try to crash your wedding. I would ask my fiancé's friend Steve who's 6'3" & works as a mechanic.

A few of our friends know what's going on so they've offered to keep an eye out. More than likely he won't show up anyways.

That's a real risk if you pick a well known venue & a lot of people find out when & where you're getting married. You can send out wrist bands for guests to ware to get in. No wrist band = no entry. Just an idea. That might be a bit too awkward though for those who forget them but are invited.

My worst fear is that FMIL is going to try to start drama between FFIL and his wife. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced that that won't happen. Luckily my mom and sisters have all agreed to run interference if necessary Smiley xd

I would have someone who knows what your bio-dad looks like standing by the door to cut off his path to your wedding. If that person is able to look like they're just greeting people as they come in, no one needs to even know why they're there. I hope everything goes as planned with no uninvited guests.

That would be kind of funny. I don't mean to minimize your fear but with all the cell phones out there, you could have dinner by cell light rather than candle light.

Having family & friends in the know about potential 'issues' can be such a good way to deal with that. They feel like they're helping out (which they are) & you don't have to stress out over it. Plus, if the 'problem people' don't show up, you can all laugh about it later. I hope your wedding goes well without any 'hiccups.'

I suppose the worst thing that could possibly happen is not having enough cake/food for our guests!

I guess my biggest fear is that politics get brought up and a huge brawl breaks out. We have people from every side of the political spectrum amongst all family and friends - some of whom are more vocal about politics than others - so the thought of something happening stresses me out.

Rain during the reception would suck but I'm sure we could make it work and it wouldn't be the worst.

I would give the caterer (if you're having it catered) the number of RSVP that said yes & have them do up 2 or 3 extra plates just to be on the safe side.

Yes! I definitely plan on doing that. I'd be mortified if I didn't have enough food for everyone

I would tell a few trusted friends or family members at each table to try to stear conversation away from politics. Having them as conversation monitors might be enough. Besides, I'm sure they'll feel good knowing they helped!

We've been contemplating putting up a sign that says if you're heard discussing politics you'll be asked to leave. Hopefully the threat of being kicked out will keep people off the topic!

I like it! Those who don't care about politics will think it's cute & funny but those who normally talk about that sort of thing will be warned. Politic is what it sounds like: poly- more than 1, tick - blood sucking parasite!
