Issue with dress on wedding day - boutique offer

Meghan, on October 30, 2021 at 2:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
My wedding was in September and I reached out to my boutique I purchased my dress from because the boning that they added into my dress ended up popping outwards and into my skin. I was super uncomfortable during my wedding day because of it and it ended up cutting my sides. During my alteration appointments I pointed out that one side stuck out and they assured me not to worry and when I went to my next appointment it wasn’t popping out. So I didn’t think there would be anything to worry about until my wedding day. I noticed much later in that the side was in fact popping out! You couldn’t tell from the dress hanging so I didn’t think anything of it when we were getting ready for pictures. By the end of the night I was begging to be unbuttoned out of my dress due to pain. I reached out to the boutique and they said that they can have me go in to have the dress fixed or refund me for the boning portion. I looked it up and it seems like that may be $60-$100. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful but I paid $800 in alterations and they told me to add boning in to create more of an hour glass/support. I was fine without it but trusted them since they’re the professionals. Now when I see my pictures I’m so upset seeing the side pop out. What should I do? Just take the refund they’re offering and move on?

Looking at my receipt looks like the boning was $60 (total alterations were $800. I had the top brought in, cups added, bottom had the lace added which the dress came with (it’s added so you don’t have to remove lace during hemming), and draped sleeves adjusted)

That's so terrible! They definitely should refund you more in my opinion, because the dress literally damaged your skin. I would ask them what they intend to do to make up for the discomfort you experienced and definitely send them the pics of the bruising. If they don't offer anything more, leave a scathing negative review and move on.

The good news is the dress still looked beautiful even with the side popping out! 🥰

Thank you! Yeah I sent them the images posted above. Then said I can either A) go in and have the dress fixed OR B) be refunded for the boning cost.

That's horrible. I would ask them to increase the refund especially since it damaged your skin.

I would expect more as it has damage to your skin. That's terrible 😞 .

My legal expertise involves watching Judge Judy. If there are no medical bills, it appears that you usually aren't compensated for minor injuries.
