Is your dress a "surprise"?

Elise, on April 18, 2019 at 8:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 88

So we all know that most brides keep their dress a surprise from the groom until the day of wedding, but what about everyone else? So far I have only shown pictures of my wedding dress to a select few people, mostly because my mom seemed to feel strongly it should remain a "surprise," even to family members like my aunts and grandparents.

I'm not sure if I care that much, but it did give me pause! So brides, weigh in - are you keeping photos of your dress to a select few, or showing it to anyone who asks?

I've shown it to who ever asks lol. I know my mom and FMIL have been as well. I think it's up to you. Personally, I think my dress looks so much better in person than the pictures I have, and the whole look will still be a surprise with the veil and hair, etc.

I am going to keep it a surprise. The only person who has seen it is my sister.

Yeah that's definitely true! I think I might cave soon and start sharing it with more people because I'm having a hard time deciding on the "whole look" and need opinions haha

My sister was with me when I bought it and we had FaceTimed my mom, who was out of town but was with me the first time i tried it on.
I showed my MIL and some coworkers. I also showed my bridesmaid.
I did not show anyone besides my mom after alterations were done. I didn’t show my dad at all as I wanted it to be a surprise for him and I wanted a first look with him.
Even if you show people, you will look completely different day of once your whole look is together. (I included a picture of the day i tried it on and my wedding day for reference, i bought off the rack so it’s the exact same dress). It also gets easier to not show people the longer you’ve had your dress.

I’ve only shown it to my mom (who was there when I bought it) and two of my bridesmaids. I don’t plan to show anyone else.

I’ve shown my mom, FMIL & future step mother in law as they were the ones I invited to go dress shopping with me. Then after a few months my mom guilted me into showing my sisters and I caved lol. Other than that, it’s a surprise!

I showed our boys, my friend, my FSIL and FMIL, and my mom. Then I started getting texts from other family members about my dress. Apparently my mom saved the picture and sent it to lots of people. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

I will Be dress shopping online. I want a red dress and not willing to pay more than $300 so online seems to be better.. all my family and friends live in the west coast and we live in the east coast. So no one will be seeing my dress until the day off... my mom and sister know that it’ll be red but that’s all.. I’ll be the only one to see itSmiley smile!!! I want it to be a WOW factor/reaction...

I've only shown my dress to my bridesmaids, my boss, and grandma. And then theres my MOH, mom, and FMIL who were with me at the appointment. On the way home, my mom said she was so excited to show her friends and I was like, "Uuuuhh no, you are most certainly not showing anyone my dress...then like a third of the guests will have already seen it!" Sometimes she drives me crazy haha.

I am keeping my dress a surprise, and I have only shown a handful of special people! I especially want to keep it a surprise from my FH. We’re not doing a first look because we want that extra special moment of him seeing me walk down the aisle in the dress. Here’s the kicker to that part though... his mom and sister joined me and my family when we went dress shopping. Before we even left the store, she sent a picture of me in the dress to her husband, Ed. Turns out that she sent the picture of me in my dress to her son and my FH, Ed.... so he saw a picture of me in the dress already Smiley sad I know it was an accident, but it’s still a bummer

For the most part I am. I decided I’m going to have my “first look” with my dad instead.

My mom feels it should be a surprise to everybody, only she has seen it. I once true to get a pick of me in it when I was trying it in she caught me before I could, lol. I was going to show my bridal party. But she is adamant that no one sees it. At first I didn't like that idea now I love it cause it will be a surprise to everybody!! Lol but to each their own

I'm happy to show it to anyone who ISN'T FH. My friends took pictures of me in all the dresses I tried on, and when I picked one, that picture got sent around (with my permission), to most of my friends.
The thing is - it didn't fit then, and it didn't have my customizations, so it'll still be a bit of a surprise.

I don't even talk about it on here, just in case FH comes on or looks over at my computer.

But it's on my phone, lol.

Noooooo, I did at first, but after THREE postponed weddings, alot of my girlfriends and family have seen my gown. No one has seen it on me. FH just knows its pink with a long train. I think he'll be surprised. I've had it a year now, too. Lol!
