Is wedding brain a thing?

Adjo03, on October 21, 2015 at 10:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

So twice this week I have completely spaced on past conversations with coworkers and been like, "We never said we'd do that," or, "I wish you'd told me I was speaking at this meeting." Only to remember that yes, we had this conversation. It's so bad! I'm new to the org in a leadership role and I just feel like a fool! is this happening/did it happen to anyone else?? Please tell me it goes away after the wedding!

With all the brainpower that goes into planning a wedding, it's for sure a thing. Especially with how close your date is! I can only imagine how spacey I'll be when I'm less than a month out!

This happened to me starting about the week before the wedding. I completely overpacked for our honeymoon and pre-wedding stuff... like I packed my ENTIRE wardrobe. I could live for over a month without washing my clothes if I had lived out of that bag. It was ridiculous. I also packed my dog's food in the same method when dropping them off at boarding. They both had 2 gallon sized bags full of food leftover. I was just over prepared? Wedding brain is real. Definitely write everything down.

Wedding brain is a thing. I'm about to hit single digits and I have so much excitement and anxiety that I just caaaan't. Yours is so close as well. I'm sure this goes away after the wedding – just need to try to keep focused til then!!

It is real. I literally forgot how to use the bathroom correctly as a woman last week. I sat down, with my legs wide open and peed all over the floor and my jeans. That may be tmi but I don't want you to feel silly!

Yes, totally! I worked so hard on this canvas I painted for my husband (a surprise for him as part of the wedding decor to then be hung in our home after) and I didn't even realize until about a week ago that I royally screwed it up! He noticed it right away at the wedding but was so sweet and didn't mention it. All of a sudden I sat up, pointed at the canvas and gasped. He was like "Yeah...I didn't say anything because you were so proud of it." It says "You are the" and then things like "Marshall to my Lily" "Riker to my Troi" "Wash to my Zoe" "Kristoff to my Anna" and THEN "Ron to my Ginny"...oops. Yup. I totally just made an unintentional incest reference at my own wedding. I worked so hard on it and somehow just totally messed that part up. Funny thing is I had read it over like a dozen times prior to the wedding and not seen it. No one said anything on the day of either. I guess they didn't want to upset the bride. I'm kind of torn as to whether I should remake it or just hang it up as is (it IS kind of funny...heck, maybe it would be interesting to see who noticed!).

@elizabeth, I have to pack too and I know I will do the same thing! Better than under packing though!

@chloe, OMG, probably TMI, but thank you for sharing! I definitely laughed and appreciate knowing people are going through the same thing. You're almost there!!

@reggie oh no! I'd maybe leave it. It's a sweet funny memory now. And your DH is the best for not saying a thing.

Definitely a thing. I was probably 3 months out when mine really started. I almost got into an accident because I was completely spaced out and pulled out in front of someone. Luckily she saw me. I felt like such an asshole...I'm such a careful driver and I've never done anything like that before! I have pretty vivid dreams most nights anyway but the wedding planning really laid it on thick. I had so many wedding nightmares it was unreal. I promise it will go away on 11/8 lol

I'm still 7 months out and it comes and goes when I'm super invested in a wedding related project haha.

Yes it is! I was supposed to be trained on a bunch of new tasks at work, and I actually sat down with my supervisor and was like "Look, I am not all here. Lets wait" she totally understood & thought it was hilarious (I am super lucky- she is awesome.)

I definitely hope so or I have turned into a total idiot over the last few weeks! Between work being stressful (just bad timing) and the wedding being 9 days away, I can't remember anything!

YES!!! I thought that I had everything under control at work during the wedding planning, but only after my wedding did my boss let me know that he did notice a difference in my work and that I was not as buttoned up as I normally am! Shoot! Thankfully he has seen all my other coworkers go through the same thing, so he just chalked it up to wedding brain.

It's definitely a thing! Just do the best that you can, and when possible, try to keep wedding stuff for lunchtimes and after work (I know, that's basically impossible). You got this!

YES! Anytime through this whole process that we've hit a particularly stressful time, I start forgetting to brush my teeth. Seriously. Gross, right? It's completely bizarre because I NEVER forget that. I guess my mind just gets too preoccupied with whatever I'm obsessing over to remember to do the normal things. Don't worry, I keep a brush and some paste in my purse and at work in my desk now until the wedding's over! I locked myself out of my house the day of my H/MU trial, which was also a day I had a fitting and the day before my shower so I was pretty wedding-stressed that day too.

@VM I totally get that!! We left a window to our house open when we left for the honeymoon. We checked every other window and door and lock. But we left the kitchen window open onto our front porch. Luckily, we live in a really safe, gated community.
