Is this a long enough wedding?

CountryBride, on May 30, 2021 at 4:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

We are not seeing each other before the ceremony, Start time for guests to arrive is 4:00 to walk down the aisle is 4:30

Last dance is at 11:00 pm and we have to be out of there by midnight

so a 7-hour wedding, is this enough time or do we need more?

Thanks

7 hours is perfect. Unless you want to go longer, because every bride says afterward that the day was a blur and they wish it lasted longer. That is on par with the standard 15-30 min ceremony plus standard 4 hours for cocktail hour/dinner/dancing plus after party at another venue that the majority has. The difference is you are having everything in 1 location instead of 3 locations.

That's plenty of time. Our ceremony started at 4:30 and our reception ended at 10:00 then we went to a bar for an after party.

That’s plenty. This is my second wedding and by choice I want it to end at 8pm and only be 5 hours long 😂. So you’re good!

Yes, that is long enough. 4:30-5 for ceremony. 5-6 for cocktail hour and photos. 6-7ish dinner. 7-11 reception. Sounds perfect.

That's plenty of time! Our ceremony was at 1:15, cocktail hour at 1:45, reception starting at 3, and everything over and done with around 6:45. It was about 5.5 hours and was pretty great.

That seems appropriate. Our event is about 6 hours long.

One wedding I went to had the ceremony at noon, and the reception finished at 11pm. The cocktail "hour" was 2-3 hours long. That is WAY too long!

I think 5-8 hours (if doing a ceremony, full dinner, and reception) is appropriate, a bit shorter if a daytime/brunch wedding or if it a reception only.

Oh yes, 7 hours is beyond long enough. Keep in mind that your guests spend time getting dressed, driving over and arriving about 30 minutes before the ceremony. So they’ve already allotted about 2 hours to your wedding before it even begins. As a result, about half of your guests won’t last much beyond dinner. So going past 6 hours isn’t really necessary.

Even though the couple is full of energy and adrenaline (and wants the night to last forever), that’s not the same reality for guests.
