Is there such a thing as a super modern cheongsam?

T & Co, on March 31, 2013 at 1:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Cheongsams are the Chinese slim dress, often bearing flowers, dragons and phoenixes. I personally don't like them but I do like how they fit and I am searching for one more dress. That traditional pattern just kills me. I have seen red lace cheongsams which aren't bad but I have found them in scam sites. Is there a good site selling modern looking cheongsams?

I wish I could help. This is one of the things that frustrates me. Liking a style and not the fabric it's made of. I made this red dress in 2006, but I used the kind of fabric you don't want.

Hey you that is actually kind of cute, you totally rocked it. Yes if it was more satin I would be cool with that. Smiley smile yeah I am not having much luck looking it up. May just give up and tell my folks the cheongsam is not happening lol

Have you checked etsy? I found a few vintage lace cheongsams, like this one: http://www.etsy.com/listing/108966163/vintage-90s-golden-lace-cheongsam-dress?ref=market

Yea there are definitely modern cheongsams out there, but depending on your location dictates how easy they are to obtain!

Can you buy from overseas (family or something)

You could go on line or to a pattern store and get a pattern and have someone make it for you. I also know there is a selection on Amazon.com and I think that you could call some of the sources and find out more about the one you want. Check out:

do order a full size larger because they tend to run small.

Probably not what you're looking for (especially if you're looking specifically for red), but I think there's a strong Asian influence in this dress. I considered it myself, but I think I'm going in a different direction.

I really wish I had some photos where I didn't look so embarrassingly dorky in, but here's a few photos where you can tell what kind of Cheongsam I used on my wedding day. I LOVED it. It had the red in it that I needed, but I also loved all the white and pink it in. There were a lot of sequences throughout the dress, and I got a lot of compliments. Where are you located? I bought mine in San Francisco Chinatown.

Here are 3 that I was looking at that I took inspiration from. All very modern wedding dress styles

The 2nd one is actually the one I chose to go with. I had it custom made, and then I had a large overskirt made so that it looked like a traditional wedding dress during the ceremony, and it could be removed for the reception.

Hey flo, I actually will be at San Fran for a week so if I have time I could try to check out dragon seed. If not I am sure I saw the same dress shown in purplesun's post from a place called efushop. Thanks for the suggestions ladies!
