Is there a special pill or something to prevent your period from coming on your wedding and honeymoon?

I have an appointment with the gynecologist tomorrow. I'm going because I need an advice on what to do during my wedding/honeymoon. I'm irregular with my period so I have NO IDEA when it's coming this month. My wedding is in June and the past two months it came in the middle of the month but...

I have an appointment with the gynecologist tomorrow. I'm going because I need an advice on what to do during my wedding/honeymoon. I'm irregular with my period so I have NO IDEA when it's coming this month. My wedding is in June and the past two months it came in the middle of the month but sometimes it changes and it will be so bad if it comes during my wedding. I will feel uncomfortable and I won't be able to swim on my honeymoon or anything... Are there any pills I can take? If so, which are they? Am I doing the right thing by talking to a gynecologist about it or there's nothing I can do? I've never taken birth control pills or anything.

Birth control. Mine told me to just skip the last week of the pack two months before the wedding so I won't have one.

Talk with your Gyno. DON'T take the Depo shot. Yes it stops your period for 50% of women, But I had horrible side effects. I gained 18lbs in 9months, and when I stopped in December I had headache and withdrawal symptoms for 2 months.

I second the previous advice for tampon/cup usage while swimming.

@Alice The Depo Shot works well for many women. ALL b/c options have side effects on someone. We don't know - the Depo shot could be the perfect solution for Emma - Only her doctor will know Smiley smile

Side note: I have been on the shot on and off over the last 12 years and have never had issues. I also have friends who have used the shot with no side effects. The only person I have encountered who has had side effects to any b/c is my FSIL and she gained weigh on the pill.... but she also drinks several Mountain Dews per day so you be the judge...

I started the pill 3 months before my wedding and changed my cycle. It sucked for the first month because I had my period for like 2 and a half weeks from messing with it, but I'm on a regular cycle now where I will not be getting it on my wedding day or honeymoon! Smiley laugh

An IUD is also another option. They can cause irregular bleeding at first, but a lot of women don't have a period after that. There aren't known weight gains like with depo, either. http://www.webmd.com/sex/birth-control/intrauterine-device-iud-for-birth-control

Talk with your gyno. I really don't get the swimming part though? I used to race triathlon and would be in the pool 4-5x/week training. You can absolutely still swim with your period!

@Brittany I wouldn't recommend an IUD when her wedding is in a month. It took me about 2 weeks to fully recover from my insertion (like, I was really crampy for a week and a half, and I had lower back pain the whole time), and I still got my period for the first two months. Not only that, but it's no guarantee that the OP would have no periods after insertion; only about half the women I know with Mirena stopped getting periods.

As for weight gain on the pill: not everyone gains weight ... but most people gain a little. It's mostly water weight. The pill also made it just hard for me to lose weight. Now that I'm off the pill, it's easier for me to get back on track if I've gained a few pounds.

I'm on extended cycle BC, so I get 4 periods a year. It's not for everyone, but it works so well for me. I actually have less crappy symptoms, and my periods only last 2 days. It's awesome! My doctor has me skip the placebo week for two months, and it doesn't have negative effects on me. Your doctor, though, will know better if it would work for you.

I will also say that way back when I started taking BC, it had an immediate effect on me - meaning, my cycle just worked itself out with no major problems. So it may not be too late for you, as some people said.

Also, I'm confused about why you can't swim... I've been swimming while on my period since I was 13! Just wear a tampon or one of those Diva cups - but practice the cups first. They take some getting used to. Smiley smile

Are you doing the right thing by talking to a gynocologist?

No. You should never ask your doctor for medical advice. That's too sensible.

Thanks for asking Sarah. Well, I went to the gynecologist and she told me that I can use birth control pills but that doesn't guarantee that my period will not come. It's supposed to come next week but since I'm irregular sometimes, I never know if it's coming or not. She said if it doesn't come to start taking the pills but two weeks before the wedding. I hope it works. I've never used this pills before.

IThey told me there is no such thing just birth control. They wouldn't even listen about the wedding stuff...they just kept bringing up the pregnancy aspect of it. My period ended up changing from stress or whatnot so that might happen for you.
