Is September 3 too early for a fall themed wedding? Starting to regret our date choice

Christine, on August 18, 2016 at 10:52 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25

We both love fall and definitely want a fall wedding. However we ended up going with the 3rd, over Labor Day weekend, which is still summer. We could only afford a Sunday wedding, the guest minimums for Saturdays were way too high everywhere, and we didn't want to inconvenience anyone (especially my 2 bridesmaids who will be in college and traveling family). We still would like it to feel more fall than summer. We'll have to skip the pumpkins, but would a darker color scheme work? I guess we have to skip the leaves too... Thoughts? I'm starting to regret our date choice - my ideal date would've been late September or early October. Plus it's been hot as hell in NJ for the entire month of August so I'm worried about temperature.

I think the darker colors would be fine. Pick whatever colors/theme makes you happy!

I think it's fine; it is the unofficial end of summer...

Ok this thread is making me feel much better about the date. Thanks guys. I definitely want to do a gold accent since all the venue decor/lighting is gold. Haven't decided on the other colors yet but I was thinking sage green mixed with some darker colors.

Our wedding is Sep 10th and we are using dark jewel tones and having a moody, fall vibe in our decor. I definitely consider September more fall than summer ... despite the equinox not being til later in the month. But, I also think you can/should do any colors you want in any season!

I think your fine. I don't know about your neck of the woods, but our craft stores and Target/Walmart already have all their Fall / Halloween stuff out. Which I am personally ecstatic about! I think people are already used to seeing Fall stuff at this point in the year. Maybe decorate with some Fall decor, and get some pumpkin scented candles to get everybody in the Fall mood. I'm sure it'll be fine. =)

You can do whatever you want don't be so concerned about the theme and the month. You can do darker colors for sure. Look up fall color schemes on google and a ton of things will pop up. Don't stress yourself so much.

Agree with pps - do what you want. I feel like unofficial fall comes when school starts. If you want pumpkins, have pumpkins too!

You can definitely do whatever you want with colors/decor, don't worry about the date! You also just never know with weather, no matter what! I went to a truly fall wedding with apples and pumpkins and everything in October, and it ended up being 85 degrees! It will work out = )

Regarding decorations, all the craft stores start selling "Fall "decorations late July, so you can get your leaves and pumpkins and whatever elements that you need to give you that "fall feel". So your date is doo-able.

You can get some fall decor this year when it goes on sale. They fake pumpkins!

    1) Dunkin Doughnuts already has Pumpkin Spice. It came in with this week's delivery. (My local manager gave me the DL)

    2) Gonna go against the group here and say the 1st weekend in September is effectively a Summer wedding.

Fall (for me) is about weather, that nip in the air, leaves changing, etc. You're too too early.

Lol so last year I watched the trees around me like a hawk and nothing was turning so I removed all true aspects of fall out, like pumpkins and fall leaves. Guess what? Mother nature gave me the finger. We have so many trees turning already. Oh well lol.

So just know you can do what you want but if you are planning on mother nature to help with colors just don't be surprised if she says f u lol.
