Is my wedding considered a destination wedding?

Private User, on December 16, 2010 at 10:40 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

99% of the guest who are coming need a hotel. All our family lives in NY. Between NYC to the end of long island. We are having our wedding in the Poconos where we live. So is this considered a destination wedding?? Sry someone told me it was cuz there was hotel and travel involved.

Thanks for taking ur time out to help Smiley smile

Yes it's a destination wedding. I'm located in Ohio and I had my wedding in Hawaii just make sure everyone can afford to come or at least the majority most of my guest could not afford to travel to Hawaii

"Destination wedding," like "budget," is one of those terms that has different meanings depending on the context and who is saying it. However, I know that we found some of the destination wedding posts helpful when we were planning our involuntary destination wedding. (As a same-sex couple, we had to get married in MA, even though we live near DC.) So you can call yourself a DW if that sounds sexy. ;-)

Well, if that is the case, then EVERY wedding is considered as a DW! As every couple will have at least 1 guest who has to travel and stay in a hotel. I think DW were considered to be DW when they were held in a different country?

I thought it was if you were doing it away from where you lived.. like a mini vacation and wedding for you not only the guests

See thats what i thought @FMS & @Kayla... But our whole family is down in the city. And the poconos are considerd a DW point. Esp in the winter.

@ 2nd Bride You defined it perfectly!

Hmm...I agree with 2D. I think everyone has a different idea of what a DW is. Since we are going to a different state, and everyone of the guests, except for the owners of the inn, are all traveling there, than mine is a no brainer.

@Christina.....Obvisouly being from Philly, we have a short ride to the beautiful Poconos.

Carole, I grew up near Philly (Chester) and worked at Widener 1 summer during high school.
