Is my favor idea tacky ? Please be honest

FutureMrsKing, on December 11, 2014 at 9:28 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 39

I was in Walmart yesterday and seen these mini Sutter Home Wine bottles for a buck . Then it came to me that I could do these and add a piece of chocolate and put both in a sachet bag . and tie with a ribbon . Also, if I do decided to do these would I do 1 per guest or 1 per family ?

I'd say 1 per adult guest if you plan on using these as favors.

If you do that, I would make your own labels with your wedding date, etc. They are not expensive to do! Make sure you have an alternative for kids!

Favors are per guest, not per family. I would say whether this is tacky really depends on your crowd. I would not consider Sutter Home to be a good brand of wine, so I would not give these out myself.

ETA: I like Val's idea of making your own labels. Then they don't see the brand and it's really personalized for your wedding!

I think the rule for favors is 1 per guest. If you're inviting kids I would have some chocolate only favor bags too. I think its a cute idea! You might have some wine snobs turn their nose up at the brand name, but who cares about that. You know your crowd best, if you think they'd like it, do it.

I don't think its tacky, One/guest (and different favours for kids obviously. I would do labels as Val suggested to! I was looking for mini alcohol bottles originally but I find a good a deal as you did!

I don't think it's tacky. I wouldn't drink it, but who really gets all worked up about what they get as a favor anyway? lol.

I don't think it's tacky IF the labels are changed. One per person

I don't think it's tacky at all. It's actually a cute idea and it's different. Some people like Sutter Home, some don't. But not all guests will ever all like the wedding favors. It's a nice gesture. They can drink it or leave it for someone who will. No harm. No foul.

Haha Walmart doesn't sell alcohol here. Maybe I'll ask my mom to check it out when she goes to Buffalo this coming weekend.

Honestly I would not drink that wine. I would suggest either just giving out the chocolate to everyone or buying a slightly better wine. I think chocolate is always a great favor.

I think it's ok. Definitely do 1 per person and maybe try to come up with a secondary favor for non-drinkers and children? I'd also change the labels to something personalized. It'd really make the favor look cuter and hide the fact that it's Sutter Home.

It would need to be 1 per adult guest. If you are having children I would suggest having another option. Most times when I see these they are given with some type of glass or you can get the mini bottles of liquor instead of wine and order shot glasses as the favor. I would probably think it was odd if the favor was just that little bottle of wine and chocolate. Most people would probably drink it at the wedding and wouldn't drink it out of the bottle. I think I remember from past posts you aren't having an open bar or having something limited? If you are offering wine to the guests then I'm not sure about giving wine as the favor too.

If you were offering wine you could do the shot glasses and then have the bottles of liquor out, if you weren't offering liquor.

I feel like favours should always be one per guest.

I don't think that anyone really needs favors, and Sutter Homes is not a brand that has any cache at all, though the idea is a fine one. And it's one per guest.

I don't like wine, so I wouldn't care for these.

If you decide to have favors containing alcohol, make sure you look into the alcohol regulations for your area. We thought about giving out mini whiskey bottles, but with the rules in our county it would have turned out to be a cluster fuck because our venue would have had to purchase them, and then turn around and sell them to us.
