Is it weird to use a girl for the ring bearer?

Nicole, on September 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

I am getting married in March of 2012 and me and my fiance have two daughters. They will be 5 and 2 1/2. I was going to have them both be flower girls, and then get someone else to be the ring bearer. Then I was thinking it would be cute if one was a flower girl and the other was the ring bearer. But would it be weird to have a girl as the ring bearer? And then should I still have them wear the same dress? Is there something else I can do? Any advise would be greatly appriciated!

This sounds just fine to me. They can still both be called flower girls, but you can have one carry the rings. I am going without a ring bearer myself, but I'm having three flower girls.

I was going to do this too... we dont have any young boys! The only one that could work cant even walk yet--- so instead we have three little girls. 2 flower girls, and the third one will carry the rings Smiley smile

Think I should have each of them carry one ring or just have the older one carry both? Then would she still carry flowers?

You could always attach the rings onto ribbon to a flower girl basket, instead. That way, she can technically be a "ring bearer", but also have fun throwing flower petals Smiley smile

I wanted all three of my sister to be involved (ages 20, 17 and 7) so one will be my MOH, the youngest my flower girl and the middle sister as one of the ring bearer for my FH's ring. FH's brother, who is the same age as my middle sister, will bring my ring to me Smiley smile, that was he's involved too. FH's step-sister is also one of my BM's. Good luck!

My 3 year old niece is going to be our ring bearer; she's the youngest by 4 years to her next cousin, so it just worked out that way. No big deal.

    I like Agata S's idea.

I think we are skipping the ring bearer. We will have 3 flower girls.

I am having my 6 year old daughter be the flower girl and FH's 4 year old niece be our "Bling Bearer" I have 2 young sons- but I am having them walk me down the isle and then stand up there with the rest of the party. I figure I am more theirs now than either of my dads.

Given that people have Men of Honor, Best Women, bridesmen, and groomswomen, having a female ring bearer is hardly revolutionary.

Just be prepared that your younger daughter may not want to perform." Smiley smile My oldest daughter refused to carry anything and insisted be swung down the aisle between a BM and GM. Lol Though she was 18 months at the time.

That's very cute, go for it. My friend had a best woman at her wedding, I don't see anything wrong with it at all.

Yep, if our venue allows it, our ring bear will be our female border collie lol Smiley smile

I would dress them both the same, and still let them both throw flowers.

But I like Agata's idea of tying the ring to the basket.

If it will cause fights (and as having sisters, i know it will) then I would tie one ring to each girl's basket, so they are both ring bearers.

I, personally, would give them the real rings. So many people seem to think that animals and children will loose rings, but I don't see the issue. It isn't that hard to tie them on securely, and if they are well behaved then there is no problem.

Thanks to everyone for your ideas! I definitely feel better now! lol! I think I like the idea of attaching each of the rings to the baskets. I was thinking about having my personal attendant, who is one of my cousins, walk down the aisle behind them in case one gets nervous or tries to bail. lol! Thanks again!

We dont have any younger boys either and all my nieces are dead set on flower girls so we have arranged for penguins to walk down the aisle as our ring bearers

You sure can! We were just going to have 2 flower girls, but my lil cousin said she didn't want to throw petals, so we had a ring girl! She carried a flower kissing ball with a big bow at the top, and the 'rings' were attached to the strings of the bow! In the program we made sure to not that she was the ring girl so that people would know and no one ever said anything about it!
