Is it weird to do the wedding send-off early?

The Sealpups, on August 7, 2019 at 2:14 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

We are planning to have our "thank you" speeches by 9PM - our first dance, cake and all that will be done by then. During our "thank you", we would like to do our "send off" with guests before we start with dancing. Reason being is that all our guests will still be there and most importantly, our photographer and videographer will be there until they need to go (contract).

Our venue coordinator said we could spin it like this,

"we wanted to do a 'send off' with sprinkles but we wanted to do a twist (and we didn't want to burn down this brand new venue! If we can have everyone meet us in the patio, we can get a picture and footage of everyone here with our lights. Afterwards, we can start our dance party!"

Rather than do sparklers, we're thinking of doing LED lights balloons and wands.

Any advice or ways to spin it?

Not really a way to spin it, but it's good also to do it on the earlier side because if you're having alcohol, people are more focused and compliant when sober. You and FH will also look more fresh.

Instead of calling it a send off, which might confuse people and make them think you’re leaving, I’d just say you’d like to take a special photo with lights/props and need everyone on the patio. Or it might work to have your DJ announce it after your thank you speech, since DJs are typically giving guests instructions anyways.

I'm not a fan of send offs in general and an early and off just for pictures would really annoy me as a guest.

I agree about having your dj announce a photo op. I know for a wedding I went to recently the mc had all the guests come to the dance floor to take pics with the bride and groom as a group pic and honestly no one really minded since it was a good photo op

I agree that it might cause confusion if you have a "send off" but aren't really going anywhere!

Maybe you can do it at your grand entrance. Have your DJ and DOC set everyone up and have the pictures as you enter the venue. It will be a nice way to hype up the reception.

Keep in mind that many of your guests might take this as a cue to leave. Another option if you really want send-off pictures is to just have your wedding party and immediate family do them with you so you don't disturb the rest of the guests.
