Is it too soon to start planning?

Keyaira, on September 6, 2017 at 10:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

We are planning to have our wedding sept. 2019 (2 years from now) Is it too soon to begin planning? I want to hire a wedding planner but I don't know how far in advance I should be doing that. Also, what is a good/average price for a wedding planner?

Thanks!!

You could set a budget, get a possible guest number, and book venues. Most of the other things can wait a year

To me it's never too soon. I'm a procrastinator so I started early

    Never to early!

I would start figuring our how much you have to spend, rough idea how many people you plan to invite and look at areas that can accommodate your needs.

    Hope this helps Smiley smile

Well my wedding is in Feb 2019, I have my venue, to pay able to pay it off with more time & my photographer booked. Besides that work on a budget, guest list and looking around for a date/venue.

I was wondering the same thing! I was thinking I was crazy for starting to plan so early, but we are planning a DW with only so many venue options for a wedding of 100 people. I am worried the venues we want will be booked already since it is a beautiful location and are filling up for 2018 already! So this weekend we have to decide! Lol Smiley smile

It's not too soon if you have your budget and guest list down!

We booked our venue 18 months out and we got the last Saturday of the summer. Once you have the venue booked and your date confirmed, you can plan whatever you want. I'm planning my own wedding, so no advice there.

I would disagree with the "never too early" unless the venue you have your heart set on is booked 2 years in advance. Wedding planning can become draining and it's not something you want to drag out over 2 years. I work in corporate event planning and we put on multi-million dollar events in a matter of months. Relax and enjoy your engagement time. If you book something too early, you may come across a new venue or something you didn't look at 6 months earlier and regret acting too soon. Besides, no one will want to talk about your wedding for 2 years.

ETA: If you're a procrastinator, starting early won't help if putting things off is what you do.

A venue. September is a very popular month to get married. Just this weekend alone we have 7 weddings. We have plenty of bookings for summer 2019. If you get a venue that has a DOC you shouldn't need a full coordiantor.

I say get a venue and a photographer and then put the planning aside for a while. That's what we did, and it worked out perfectly. I agree with @firstoneat56, it's not really *that* complicated or time-consuming. You don't want to be in wedding mode for two full years. If we hadn't booked our venue when we did, we couldn't have gotten in. But once that is taken care of, the rest can wait.

Oh, and I would personally recommend against a planner. Get a Day Of Coordinator and save yourself several thousand dollars. Unless you have, like, a month to pull everything together or you are a celebrity/fabulously wealthy famous person, you don't need someone to do your planning for you. Follow a checklist and do it yourself. It's not that complicated.

I would focus on the basics - Budget/Guest list and then try to nail down the three vendors that tend to book up quickly which would be your venue/Caterer (if separate) and then photographer and possibly a DJ.

It is never too early to start doing research and compiling information and gathering ideas. It is too early to act on some of those things though!

Definitely not too early! I'm getting Married May 2019, I already have my venue and church booked. I'm starting to look into vendors now and I will start looking for a dress in the beginning of next year.

Planning on getting married August 2019 here! We have figured out the guest list and created a list of venues to visit. We will need to create a budget and we will probably start booking a venue, church, and officiant come this November-January. I think for the rest of the vendors we will wait a little because as of right now they're only booking through 2018. I think then we're going to focus on doing engagement photos and then make save the dates to send to our family. We're sending save the dates to family only so they can take time off Smiley smile

We plan on getting married in April 2019. We have set a budget and contacted venues. Some of them are already starting to book! So I think it is never too soon to set a budget and find a venue!

Never too early! We were engaged August 2016 and our Wedding June 2018. We started right away, takes away some of the pressure of feeling swamped. Remember you cannot start fully planning until you lock in your venue. Most things you do(like invitations and anything personalized) are based on locking in your venue and date. Congratulations and happy planning.
