Is it too soon for planning?

Keisha, on June 12, 2019 at 4:21 PM Posted in Planning 0 23
How soon did everyone start planning? Our wedding is not until August 2020 but I want to start getting things together now because I feel like that time is going to fly by.

I don't think it's too soon. I've been engaged for a year now, with another 11 months to go, and I've planned all sorts of things. Time does tend to fly by also.

Some things are good done early, like choosing a venue, because a lot of them book up a year or more in advance.

But you should start basically at the beginning: budget, guest list, venue, etc.

Once you have a budget and at least a preliminary guest list, you can search for venues, take tours, and pick one you like.

The nice thing about having a lot of planning time is that you can research the best deals and bargains. If you and your FH are paying for your wedding yourselves, you'll also need time to save.

    Good luck, and happy planning!

Thank you! I have a preliminary guest list and a budget. We thought we were paying for it on our own but our parents have offered a lot. My dad and step mom offered to pay for reception venue so I wanted to start shopping around, but thought it may be too early.

Start planning now!!! It’s so good to start booking and looking around at prices. Before you know it everything is array booed for the day you want. And if you start now, you won’t have as much to do the few months before the wedding! I started planning 14 months ahead and i already have a lot booked and ready for my day. My goal is get one thing off my list every month

I think this is good to start now! You would have a little over a year and that is plenty of good time that'll feel so fast. I've a friend who started planning almost two years out. It seems far away but it'll fly by

Definitely not too early! Our wedding is October 2020 and we have a venue and photographer booked, and working on locking down our caterer. I would start with the vendors that are most important to you, and the ones you are more flexible with can come later. Happy Planning!!

Start looking at venues. When I got engaged I had 15 months till the wedding day and we started looking at venues right away. It gave us so much time to look at a lot before deciding, we saw 9 venues lol. But I am so happy we planned early. Now we are 10 months away and I have the following; venue, officiant, hair stylist, Photos & video.

I don't think it's too early! Our wedding is in Oct. 2020. and even with a year and a half out, our venue was booked for the date we wanted, so we went with the day before. We've had our budget and guest list set about a month after getting engaged. We're in talks with a caterer, photographer, florist, DJ and officiant. We're not doing a cake, so our caterer is doing mini desserts. We're starting early because we're paying for everything ourselves, and we need time to save up. I also want to get as much done as early as possible so I can focus on other things that you need to do closer to the wedding date: HMU trial, getting tux rentals, creating centerpieces, etc.

Definitely start booking your venue soon! Some places will have dates filled out until 2021. Mine isn’t until November 2020 and we booked our venue a few weeks ago. August is coming up soon which might be a good time if you wanted to send out save the dates too!

July 2020 here. Our wedding is basically entirely planned. All major vendors are booked (venue, caterer, photographer have been booked since last September) and all that’s left are the details. I would definitely get into the booking of your venue and photographer at the very least since the popular ones book way in advance. The nice part is that you’ve got the budget all set, so now it’s just a matter of getting those vendor contracts locked in. Best of luck!

I started planning 3 years before our wedding date. The sooner the better because venues and vendors start getting booked sooner than you think. Happy planning...

Our wedding is October 10, 2020 and I already have my dress. Not altered but it's here at home with me! 😂
I'm a majorrrr planner. I start super early with everything. I'd go ahead and do whatever you like. I feel like the earlier the better esoeidlslt for wedding planning because it can be stressful and there is so much to think about.

Our wedding is also August 2020.

We got engaged in February, so our engagement is 18 months exactly.

We have booked the following: venue, church, florist, photographer

    I also have my dress.
Next on the list for us is a band/DJ.

Next month we are doing engagement photos so we can make our save the dates to send in the fall.

It's not too early to start planning. I've already been turned down by a makeup artist and a florist because they were booked for our date. When we went to our venue, they only had 3 Saturday's left in 2020 between June-October.
