Is it Tacky to Use Fake Flowers?

BS_2018, on February 19, 2017 at 5:24 PM Posted in Planning 1 48

I'm not very fond of the idea of spending a bunch of money on real flowers that are just going to die in a couple of days. That being said, we are going to do real flowers for the bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages, but would it be tacky to use fake flowers for the arch/ceremony decor and centerpieces? For centerpieces, we are thinking of doing something simple like in the picture.

Don't listen to Nancy. I'm sure the prefix to her name is Negative.

Most people here prefer real flowers but I honestly don't give a shit. It's not tacky. You don't even have to use flowers for your centerpieces if you don't want to. This falls in the category of "do what you want". It has no effect on the comfort of your guests.

Why would it be tacky? Fake flowers are often prettier than regular flowers, and store better.

Nah I don't think so. You could get ones that look real.

Keep in mind you'll have to take those home when you're done, whereas real flowers can be donated to hospitals and senior centers! (I guess fake ones could too lol never thought about that)

We are using fake flowers because FH and I both have horrible allergies. It will be fine

I don't think so. My flowers are going to be made from paper. The only 'real' plant life we'll have will likely be the garland I plan on buying. Go to some craft/hobby stores and check out some of the artificial flowers to see how you like the look of them.

I prefer real but I do not think it is tacky to use fake. A lot of people I know used fake and it looked nice. However I had a friend that paid someone to arrange fake flowers for her and she spent more than what I did on my real ones! I found a very reasonable florist that I love and am spending 1500 total on centerpieces, bouquets, corsages, ceremony decor, etc. so it just depends on what your plan is and where you go on what is cheaper. But if it works for you go for it! I think there is no issue using fake at all!

Nope, it's not tacky. Just a personal style choice.

We used all artificial flowers! It made everything easy because we worked on the bouquets/centerpieces/etc over a five month span. We weren't rushed or anything and had plenty of time to make them perfect.

Honestly, I do think it's tacky. It's part of a culture of mimicking high quality, authentic things with knock offs. Big fake diamonds, fake tan, fake nails, fake hair, fake designer handbags, fake flowers...I just don't see the point, personally. I would rather spend that money on the real thing, even if that means it will be less ostentatious. I would choose a small bouquet of cheap flowers like baby's breath and carnations over a fake one that is mimicking luxury flowers any day.

    Oh, and two more thoughts:

-You don't have to have flowers in your centerpieces at all. I plan on having either none at all or very minimal florals on the tables.

-The inspiration picture you posted has like $3-5 worth of flowers in it. Baby's breath is cheap AF, and roses are typically under $1 a piece.

Here is mine. It's made out of real Touch flowers. I might add real baby breath to it. Not sure yet.

Everyone has their own personal preference. As for me I'm using true touch flowers that look and feel real and I will be able to keep. For my friends wedding that I was in this past July she had real flowers and they were beautiful, but they started turning brown and wilting during the ceremony. She spent $5000 on her flowers. This confirmed any reservation I had about using fake flowers.

I recently bought some dried flowers, so they are still real but won't die. They are more of babies breath and caspia and something else I can't remember the name. Also I bought sola flowers. They come white and you have to paint them. I used floral spray paint but they are very pretty I think. Night be something worth looking into

Honestly, even if it is, who cares? If you like the way it looks then that is all that matters! I can't do flowers because I have terrible allergies, so I am looking at alternatives to fresh flowers as well. Maybe it'll be tacky, maybe it will be lovely, but as long as I think it looks nice, then that is all I am concerning myself with. Do the same. In the end you will be happier going with what pleases you and what fits your budget.

Not tacky, however babies breath is fairly cheap..and might be cheaper to buy real than artificial.

I don't think it's tacky, I personally prefer real flowers. If you're ok with it, then it's fine. However, live baby's breath is probably cheaper than the fake one, and you don't have a lot of roses. I actually think you might spend more on fake ones for this arrangement.
