Is it okay to still lose weight after buying a wedding dress?

Allie, on March 27, 2020 at 10:33 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
This question is for future reference! Our wedding is not until October 23rd 2021, so we have a little while. I’ve been losing weight and I haven’t started looking at dresses, but I saw somewhere it’s recommended to have your dress 8-9 months before the wedding. I was wondering if it’s still okay to lose weight after buying a wedding dress? I know alterations are needed, but I wasn’t sure how much altering can be done after weight loss.

Dresses can typically be altered up or down two sizes. So you could lose some weight, but nothing significant.

Honestly, easier to take in than out. I would wait til about a year out to order, then focus on maintaining. It is possible though, so don't worry about it if you want to lose more

Yes absolutely! I bought a dress from David’s bridal and ended up losing 30 pounds. They have a policy and David’s that you can bring your dress in and exchange your dress for a better fitting size!

I've Just Recently Lost 40 Pounds And Bought My Dress With The Intention To Lose 10-15 More. Since You're Wedding Is In 2021 In My Opinion You Should Wait Until Around 9-12 Months Out To Order. If You're Worried, Try To Hit Your Weight Goal Before You Get Your Dress. But Alterations Can Definitely Be Done If It's Needed.

Will they exchange the dress even if you bought it from somewhere else? I found my dream dress but it’s not from David’s Bridal!

Yes! But from what I've heard, it depends on the style of dress. The more fitted the dress, the more difficult it can be to take in without compromising the details of the dress. I purchased a ballgown dress at the size I am now and plant to lose 30-35 pounds by the time I need to get it altered. The boutique said it won't be a problem since they only have to take in the bodice. Most dresses can be taken in 2 sizes.

    Good luck!
