Is it better to have your ring half a size big and a little loose or take the chance of fingers swelling later

My ring is half a size big ( I had it sized that way because I have this strange fear that my fingers will swell or get bigger and not fit) should I get it resized to fit and my fingers may swell later or just keep it a little loose? I need advice please and thank you

My fingers change a LOT in size due to temperature and stress - so I opted for a silicon ring-sizer I could take on and off. I love it. It also helps keep my ring from spinning on my finger since it's top heavy

I am in the same situation! during the summer if I am outside in heat or humidity for a long time my fingers swell! So I made sure he got me a half size bigger. It is bigger then I thought it would be so I do have a sizer on it, I got them from amazon, they are just a little plastic piece that you cut to fit the back of your ring.

My ring is about 1/4 size too big. It was a 6. 5 when I got it, when I went to get it sized they suggested a 5 if I wanted it to be snug and a 5.25 if I wanted to be able to comfortably get it off if my fingers were to swell (normal swelling obviously from things like working out, summer, etc.). I am really glad I did this, it is no loose enough that I am checking it all the time but it doesn't feel stuck on there either.

Because of my setting with the channel diamonds, the ring cannot go to my size, which is a 4 1/2. So I believe they sized it as low as they could with not compromising the integrity of the settings and then I had a butterfly sizer placed inside the ring. It fits perfect no spinning, or moving around really at all, which is nice during the day. However my fingers swell a little at night and in the morning I can tell it is snug but it settles down pretty quick. As far as summer heat, so far no issues when it has been warmer here.

I just wear a ring spacer to cover the extra distance between my ring and finger.

I was actually between 5.5 and 5.75. Both fit comfortably, but I chose the 5.75. It won't slide off if I shake my hands about, and it adds a small amount of room for swelling.

Tale of caution, I once wore a ring that had always fit and I went to another wedding. I drank and ate saltier foods than normal. By the end of the night my finger was purple and we had to have it cut off after many varying attempts of removing it.

I also got these! My ring was sized in the summer when my hands swelled and I had it a little large because of the swelling. I use these for other times of the year when my hands are smaller.

I have heard that when you pair your wedding band with your ring, it fits a little better. After we get married and I start wearing my band, I’ll reassess to see if I need resizing.

My engagement ring was slightly bigger. I was ok with it, but my fiancee was not. So she took it back and got my exact size. I'm good with it. I like it fitting.

    Hi all,

I got engaged in September 2019, and my ring was a size
6 which is what I thought I was. Then the winter came, and it felt huge
so I had the balls added to the inside of the band. My fingers swell considerably no matter the season, (I don't know why) so I was worried about sizing it for real. The balls became uncomfortable, and my jeweler convinced me to size the ring. I made it a 5.5 based on their recommendations, and got it back yesterday. It is WAY tighter than I've ever worn a ring. This morning I woke up and could barely get it on. It goes on but is hard to move, and also feels tight. I am very swollen this morning. I am now worried I made it too small. What do I do? I'm nervous about saying something to the jeweler because I know he said my ring is difficult to size, but I also know I am swollen today. Do I deal with it and hope I never gain weight or am swollen, or do I say something about asking to make it .25 larger and hope he can do it? (I don't want him to be annoyed but I know its my ring).

    Please help!

    Thanks!

I’d get it slightly loose because they sell these plastic things that go between your finger and the ring to fill in any space. When my husband first proposed my ring was tight and it was very uncomfortable and didnt look good. I got it resized to be slightly loose and its a lot better

As a person who has had to saw watches and rings off of people, I always recommend that your jewelry can easily rotate. There should be no catching or adjusting to make it move. That generally means that there is space to account for swelling. For some people a half size up will lead to it falling off, so some places will let you go by 1/4. I would speak to your jeweler about it because that can vary based on where you live because weather patterns can affect swelling differently. I’d wear it through the summer (as long as it isn’t falling off) and see how it fits.

Do you think that your fingers swell just as much in the morning/through the night as it would during a very hot and humid summer day? Is that comparable? I’m trying to figure out how my ring would fit on my finger during those times as it has been winter and cold. (My fingers are not swollen because of that)
