Is it better to have your ring half a size big and a little loose or take the chance of fingers swelling later

Kelsey, on May 4, 2016 at 5:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 54

My ring is half a size big ( I had it sized that way because I have this strange fear that my fingers will swell or get bigger and not fit) should I get it resized to fit and my fingers may swell later or just keep it a little loose? I need advice please and thank you

I have to little prongs on my ring because my knuckle was too large to go down a size. And even when my finger swells it doesn't cause it to be too tight. The prongs give you extra room but make it tight enough to where it will catch and not fall off!

You can certainly wear it that way! Mine is a 1/4 size bigger, but probably more like a half size bigger. I will probably keep it this way until I am done having kids, so I don't have to have it sized a million times. Of course, if you are afraid you may lose it, get it sized!

A lot of women have this problem - they need a bigger ring for big knuckles or summer/exercise/sleep swelling, then it spins in the cold. Sizing beads are a common solution your jeweler can put in - you'll be able to put it on even with some swelling, but the beads should keep it from spinning or slipping. (they're the "prongs" Allee posted about)

My ring is about 1/4 size too big, so I just got a pack of these: http://www.amazon.com/RinGuard-Ring-Size-Adjuster-Sizes/dp/B00PI0T25Q?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00

Much cheaper and easier than resizing, and if my fingers swell in the summer or if I gain weight later in life I can just take it off.

Mine was too big until I added my wedding band, now that I'm wearing two rings it's much more secure. Didn't expect that to happen, so it's something to consider

How loose is it? If you can shake it off your hand - that would be bad news! Your fingers naturally swell in the summer and are smaller in the winter, so I know when I was sized for a ring they took into account what time of year it was!

I've got the same thing that GrumpyCat has. You can cut them to fit and they work like a charm considering my ring was a 1/2 size too big when I got it and is now almost a full size too big.

Did you wear it yet during the winter months? I thought my ring was too big during the winter freeze of zero degree weather, but the ring shop assured me it was sized correctly.

Now that it's spring (we'll sort of, I wore my winter coat today!) I don't have any problems. My diamond is large though which makes the ring fall to the side sometimes

For the ceremony, a little big is a good idea, as it is often warm, and people are usually excited/anxious during the ceremony, both of which can cause your fingers to be bigger/stickier than usual.

I have mine sized in between typical sizes for this exact reason. I'm a 6.75, I found that having something between the 6.5 (for finger shrinkage such as in winter) and 7 (for finger swelling) that I typically wear to be helpful. Perhaps this is also an option? My fiance decided to do the same thing for his wedding band. He can wear an 8.5, but worried it would be too tight should his fingers swell, so he decided to go with 8.75 rather than a 9 which he worried would be too big should they shrink. It's surprising how much difference a quarter of a size can make comfort wise.

Because of the channel set of the diamonds, mine was sized using this piece they attach to the inside of the ring. If my finger changes size it can be adjusted by the jeweler to be tighter or looser.

UnyBride, I had half of that on the inside of my e-ring. When that sizer finally broke, I had the sizing beads added.

If any of you wear gloves (in the winter to keep warm or at work), make sure the ring won't come off when you take off the gloves.

Oh no @Nancy...that sucks. I'll keep the beads in mind if that happens.

My ring is maybe about 1/4 bigger but I personally like my rings to be that way. Do what makes you comfortable. If it's too the point where it could come off or you're paranoid about losing in maybe invest in the ring prongs? All about what you are most comfortable with! Smiley smile

I would keep it the way it is. I bought a cheap engagement and wedding band set from Amazon so I can use it for things like vacations where I don't trust myself to take my actual ring with me. The Amazon ones are 1/2 size bigger than my fingers and I bought this from Amazon to keep it from slipping. Turns out they're incredibly comfortable as a bonus. http://www.amazon.com/RinGuard-Ring-Size-Adjuster-Sizes/dp/B00PI0T25Q

This is interesting. Mine can spin when it's cold but when I wear my wedding band it does sit better. Will show this thread to FH as he thinks it's too big but I think I'm just cold sometimes!

As long as it doesn't fall off when you shake your hand its fine. Mine is true to size and even when my finger swells or shrinks it doesn't fall off. Your finger kind of adapts to it. Weird I know haha.

Mine also felt bigger when I first got it ... the more you know! I was mostly worried about my gigantic knuckles compared to the rest of my fingers, but also not having to mess with it when I get pregnant and will probably swell. It could've been sized a little smaller, but it doesn't move around much
