Is hand addressing each wedding invitation tacky or not proper

KaSandra, on March 21, 2017 at 8:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

I have 100 invites and was wondering if handwriting the address on the envelope is tacky. Whats proper? I have return address labels printed off, but only for the return address.

I did labels for everything. It may be tacky, but I wasn't subjecting myself to that torture, no matter how nice my handwriting is.

Bemyguest, did you print everything out yourself using a template or did you have them printed? If so, where?

My handwriting is total crap, so no. I will not be addressing by hand.

I used clear labels for everything. I thought it looked much better being consistent

I had the addresses printed directly on the envelopes.

I printed them out using a template from Google docs

Avery label makers have one for word too. If you use Google docs you have to get the "Avery label merge" add on.

I love handwriting the addresses. It's more personal.

Not tacky at all! In fact, strict etiquette says they must be hand written and never printed. That's one etiquette rule I don't mind breaking, though, since it doesn't actually affect the guest experience. We will be using a vintage typewriter that FH is obsessed with.

I'm currently struggling with their same issue. Someone commented on my post about this with these awesome wrap around labels.

I printed labels. Wayyyy easier. Not sure what is the etiquette, but my handwriting is terrible and I didn't want the stress

I'm going to have my addresses printed on the envelopes. I have the worst handwriting ever and I would hate to have my guests attempt to decipher my words.

I hand addressed about 125 if I remember, gave me something to do while sitting with my sick father. One day I sat there and tied ribbons all day to put around the invites. Kept me busy Smiley smile

I addressed by hand using a lettermate to keep the lines straight for the STD and will be doing the same for the invites. Just take 10 per night and do them while watching Netflix, goes by faster than you think.

Traditionally, handwritten invitations are the proper etiquette, but it really doesn't matter how you do it. If it's easiest to print labels, then it's totally fine. Your guests won't care either way.
