Hi!! I am having a vegan wedding , about 200 people, casual/classy event outdoors. If your having a vegan wedding what are you serving? Any advice?

Botty, I think m's point was that if the OP's concerns are about animal treatment, she could try to find a caterer who specializes not necessarily in vegan catering but in ethically sourced products. That could expand her options.

That being said - I do like the Asian food idea. A Mexican-Asian fusion themed menu sounds awesome.

I argue the semantics of the word cheese because thousands of years of craftsmanship and legacy have gone into the production of cheese and the art of cheese, and vegan cheese does not fall into the category, and shouldn't get the same recognition, sorry.

Again, eat whatever you want, but call it by it's name.

I hate vegetables. All vegetables except green beans (corn and potatoes don't count right?). So if I showed up to your weddings I'd probably leave and go grab something to eat and come back. Can you at least serve pasta primavera or something with cage-free eggs? I don't think you should necessarily have to serve meat if you are ethically opposed to the killing of animals for food, but also keep in mind that quite a lot of people out of 200 will just downright hate your vegan meal.

I don't have a real issue with this, and I eat meat. I'm ordering the vegetarian entree at my own wedding (eggplant rollatini-- yum!) just because I like it best. I'd say I'm pretty closely aligned with CK on this one.

BUT if you are going with fake cheese, etc., make sure it's labeled and that your guests know. I have issues with soy and one time ate from a vegan pizza (next to regular pizzas, not clearly labeled) and was sick for two days. Nut milk cheese would probably be fine, though. Just make sure that if you have an imitation product, you let people know what's in it.

ETA: And careful with the tofu too. I'm allergic to that as well. As long as everything's clearly labeled, I think you're fine.

I know vegan food had a bad rep for being "gross" and I know a lot of people our obviously close minded. So I am fully aware that this food needs to be AMAZING! Like for my wedding the food is probably the most important thing. I am a personal cook for many vegan people and people that need to be vegan for health reasons. So I know my way around the kitchen and again fully aware that this menu needs to be amazing! I have been to far to many weddings with meat and the fool was horrible ( then you find out someone paid 50 bucks a plate). For everyone saying that I need to offer one meat dish, I understand where you are coming from, but I am vegan for religious and ethical reasons, my family and my FH's family understands that and respects that. So my guest are fully aware of what they are getting themselves into. I have had many family member praise my food. My food intention is to offer AMAZING whole, clean, eco friendly food. I promise all you people that say offer a meat dish, that this is not going to be a lackluster food event. I LOVE food, and I LOVE amazing food. I would never offer my guests food I wouldn't eat because of taste. I thank you all of the comments, but I am not going to be offering a meat dish it is against my ethics and religion. My guests understand this, I promise. There is a brand of Faux meat called Beyond meat, it looks, and tastes just like meat, I promise go try some at whole foods if you don't believe me. My post was to ask people 1) what they were serving and 2) what they thought of my menu. I apperiacate your concern but I am going to have a vegan menu ( especially save your breath). Thank you for suggesting @ Rebecca that I have more food. That's a good idea, Maybe I can add like pasta squash dish ( like a cold pasta salad). I will need to think on that. I want this food to be amazing. ( please no rude comments to my last sentence)

I happen to agree with m on the cheese issue, but I don't think that makes vegan cheese better or worse, just different. There's a vegan "parmesan" I want to try (again, I'm not vegan, just open minded!) and it says on the label "a coconut-oil based product inspired by parmesan". Not so catchy, but does the job Smiley smile

@m I really wasn't commenting on whether or not the OP should serve ethically sourced eggs or dairy, I was only responding to Celia's statement.

You're making a lot of promises for vegan tacos with guac and veggie crudite.

Hire. A. Professional. Caterer. They will develop an actual menu, not a Monday night at the Smith's house menu.

She did say she was hiring a caterer earlier, everyone, calm down.

OP, I have a tip for you if you're doing a taco bar -- for 200 people, you're going to want to have multiple stations with all the fixings set up to minimize everyone's time waiting in line. My temple does this every Yom Kippur and it pretty much eliminates lines.

Ok, let me rephrase. Hire a chef, because this menu doesn't seem professional even a little to me.

I need a taco. Now. Life it too short to eat almonds fashioned into brie.

Yeah I am hiring a professional Caterer @m. they just wanted an idea of what I wanted. I mean that's why I came here I really wanted suggestions. My wedding is a little less than a year away, so I need suggestions. I didn't want to have a run of them meal sort of food, I wanted something memorably and a little outside of the box. I love the Asian/Mexican theme, I mean you sound like you can have some good ideas. I am pretty open minded. I could do tacos and enchiladas? Do you think I should have two main entrees? or more? I am getting together with a pro caterer to discuss all this stuff. I just need a few ideas that he/she can go off of.

Ummm...she said previously that she's hiring a caterer.

OP, I had a feeling you were a vegan for religious reasons by the way you worded your post (so definitively).

Little known fact: people who are cultural/religious vegans have no issues getting enough protein.

Neither do most vegans. But that wasn't what OP asked for.

Again, there are plenty of sites that can help with recipes and your caterer should be helping too. Apparently only one WW user had a vegan wedding and maybe you can connect with her for more ideas.

Best wishes. I'm pretty sure your wedding will be awesome. Good luck.

2 or 3 options is standard for an entree.

If this helps... there's a Mexican food place in my city that specializes in vegan and gluten free. http://elotetulsa.com/menus

Take a look at their menus and that might give you some more ideas for some filling entrees.

They/them pigeon I was thinking Buffet/station style. Obviously there is going to be a chef/caterer, and this will be like " Fancy tacos" ( I am not going to walmart and putting taco shells out haha). My venue is an outdoor historic area, we are planning on having food station in a plaza and eating family style under a row of trees with twinkle lights/ chandeliers in the tree . So I am not going to be giving them Ritz Carton artwork Tacos, and not going to the fair paper plate tacos. But somewhere in the middle ( more fancy).

Personally i would do more natural flavors and foods. but mexican is pretty good with out meat, my FH and i make meatless mexican meals it all the time at home. (although it usually includes real cheese)

stay away from the fake meats, that will for sure turn people off. and things that have nuts or soy will definitely need to be labeled so that people can avoid it if they have allergies (which will probably leave few options left).

I think you should have absolute minimum 2 options for entrees, three is better. With a vegan menu, especially since it sounds like it's important to you, you want to maximize the chances that people will find something they like which means offering more options at each part, not fewer.

    How about:

    Apps:

    veggie sushi

    tofu teriyaki skewers

fried mushroom caps with sauce (I'm saying this because it's on our venue's menu and it's delicious)

little cups with tomato soup with a little tortilla chip

table with all kinds of breads and spreads including hummus (maybe 2 different kinds?), guac, plain nachos, salsa, olive tapenade, etc.

    main:

    taco station

    stir fry with noodles station

pasta with squash that you suggested or some other kind of simple pasta dish (maybe people can choose which veggies and sauces they like? I've seen that done before) which is likely to satisfy more picky eaters

    dessert:

    churros w/ dark chocolate sauce

    sorbets

    fruit

    baked apple crumble

The any advice part was in response to what to serve, not thoughts in general - oh okay... i am sure everything will be delicious. a vegan dish i like is basil pasta (i usually do chicken in mine) but i am sure it could be replaced with a chicken substitute or roasted tomato, yum. enjoy.

Wow, I can't believe that people act like they are dying because they might have to 'suffer' through one meal without meat and dairy in it. And for those mentioning special diets or allergies, if you have those, you should contact your hosts whether they are serving meat or not.

I eat meat and so does my FH, but if he eats anything but chicken, he gets stomach cramps, so I have been playing around with mock meat. Elizabeth, the beyond meat you mentioned is great, I had their fake beef and it tastes great.

We are having a brunch wedding, so besides smoked Salmon, our menu turned out vegetarian, it's a lot of eggs, so not vegan at all. My MoH is vegan though, so we are adding some options and two of the passed appetizers are vegan, one is samosas and the other mushrooms stuffed with tofu, spinach and bread crumbs.
