Is anyone having a geeky/nerdy wedding?

Helena, on April 18, 2016 at 3:42 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 59

The fiancee and I are geeky people. Actually got together because of our mutual love of Stargate, and plan on having the fandoms that we are a part of be represented in the reception. Anyone else doing anything like that?

I am!! My fiancé and I plan to use lots of nerdy touches in the ceremony and reception. So far: Our bridal party is our Fellowship, and we're really set on their procession music being Concerning Hobbits. Our recessional will be the Throne Room/ End Credits from A New Hope. Our cocktail hour will feature movie soundtrack music, and our centerpieces will be our favorite literary series. Instead of a bouquet, I'll probably be tossing a plush Golden Snitch. And the fiancé already got a head start on the nerdiness...he had the Deathly Hallows engraved in my engagement ring!

We have a song from Undertale (a videogame) as our processional, Pokemon in our cake topper, a Harry Potter sign with our names on it, small stuff like that. I think little touches throughout are really cute, just try to make sure they look nice together and don't overwhelm your less-geeky guests Smiley smile

We had a harry potter wedding!

Wands, books as table numbers, favors were chocolate frogs and jelly beans (I made the chocolate frogs!), H and GM's wore house ties, all signage was HP font, there was a sorting hat, we had a whomping willow thumb tree.

Our STD's were educational decree's and our invites were marauders maps.

It was a blast. The centerpieces weren't "Harry Potter" though. Just little details.

So far, the groomsmen are wearing superhero shirts under their dress shirts. Each of the bridesmaids is going to have a superhero garter of their choice for pictures. We were thinking of the cake having us defending the top from all kinds of movie/video game characters fighting their way to the top. The guest book is going to be a large version of River Songs journal from Doctor Who.

We each have a ton of different fandoms. As of right now we are going for subtleness with our geekiness lol. Here are the things we will have:

    1. The "No Admitance Except Party Business" Sign (LOTR)

    2. Some of our vows have various video game/nerdy sayings

    3. Harry Potter inspired cake but will include different symbols for all of our fandoms (pic)

    4. For our guestbook table I am having my girls put their boUquets in jars that will be sitting on different books. The flowers will be kind of a backdrop to the table if that makes sense. The books will range from Harry Potter, to classics, and to my current favorites.

    5. We are having a mixture of paper hearts cut out from old book pages and comic book pages to be thrown down the aisle

We had one. We had superhero table numbers, place cards and video games at the reception. We danced to Skyfall by Adele. Our thank you cards are superhero themed as well.

We're doing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle! We're keeping it really subtle at the ceremony and just using the color scheme. My BM dresses are mostly green with different color sashes to represent the ninja turtles and the GM will be wearing green vests and ties to match the BMs. We're doing a little more at the reception. We're going to have green paper lanterns that we're turning into the ninja turtles, we're having TMNT chocolate covered oreos, we have a full TMNT Pop Vinyl set that our baker is incorporating into our table display, and the bridal party is going to do a choreographed dance to the Ninja Rap by Vanilla Ice.

Our unity ceremony is going to be dice and meeples. Our cake topper is two Daleks, and our cake will have the silhouette of the TARDIS on it. Each table will be numbered but also be named after a boardgame, and each of those boardgames will be available on an area for playing do those that don't want to dance. Our processional music is an instrumental version of the firefly theme, slightly slowed down.

Fiancé just texted to say that he found a musical chest that plays the chest opening sound from zelda. For our ringbearer instead of a pillow.

You guys have awesome ideas!! Sounds like so much fun. I thought I was going crazy with all my ideas. Yall make me feel normal. Thank you!

I love the geeky/nerdy touches; some of our guests may not "get" some of the references, but we'll know they're there!

We're talking about a TARDIS ring box for our wedding bands, and we both fell in love with an "As You Wish" cake topper. We're walking in to the Imperial March, and I'm trying hard to have the bridal party walk in the the Start Trek theme. LOL

YES!!! My FH and I play tons of board games and he proposed to me during a game of Ultimate Werewolf! Our baker is making our cake with hexagons cascading down the side, to look like a tile placement game and I'm making Meeple place cards. Oh, and our wedding toppers are a Bride and Groom Meeple set.

    Here is the proposal: https://vimeo.com/145343006
