Is anyone else a little annoyed with the man not wanting to get married sentiment when it comes to marriage?

Elizabeth, on September 14, 2019 at 9:17 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 43
Now let me start off by saying yes these cake toppers are funny and cute but why is it always this way? It is 2019. Finding these in reverse is damn near impossible lol and honestly if he views marriage as a trap its probably not the type of guy I would want to marry. It's not the end of life lol. And what men really think it is that are actually getting married? I hope very few. Granted, most women plan the wedding and most men dont care that much and would be happy with a tiny ceremony but hopefully they at least both equally want to be married in the end. I just dont like this. And people always say "you're finally gonna be off the market" "arent you scared this is the only woman you're ever gonna be with forever?" "You better enjoy the sex now because you won't be getting any after you're married." And to the woman "you finally caught him" "wow! You got him to settle down" "you're finally getting married"
Just to be clear, none of this has been said to me or him but we only just got engaged. but I know this stuff gets said because I've heard it all.
It's just annoying at this point in 2019 lol sorry had to rant.

I agree. I especially dislike those “It’s you last chance to run” signs that people have ring bearers and flower girls carry.

YES!!! It is obnoxious!!! I also hate those too late to run signs. And how about the tacky "One <insert genitalia here> forever" signs for bachelor/bachelorette parties. Like it's a bad thing to be monogamous? (Not a swipe at poly friends) My ex-husband called our wedding a funeral and acted like it our entire marriage. I am so grateful that my FW and I are both as excited and committed to getting married and no one has given us the "Oh, it's about time" or "You must be thrilled to get a ring on it". Why yes, I am happy to be marrying my biggest supporter, partner, and best friend, and thrilled that we are able to do so!

I haven't even seen that. Like wth lol. I guess it would be funny if it were making fun of a past era but people are still half serious. I guess I get that most guys are fine without a commitment on paper but damn! If you feel like you're stressed about marrying me when I'm elated we better just not do this thing lol. Fortunately I'm not in that position and i dont believe that's the case usually but i just dont like being seen as someone whose trapping someone else who wants to be there as much as i do in reality. It's kinda not funny when I'm seen as a kind of freedom stealing villain lol.

Yes I hate these so much. I also hate the ring bearer signs that say it’s too late to run or something like that. If you don’t want to get married why are we doing this?

Yeah, my husband and I both find these things ridiculous. I also cringe at "happy wife, happy life," like my husband's happiness is also not important. When we were engaged, several people at my husband's job were like "ohhh, don't do it man, you're going to regret it" and references to "the ol' ball and chain." I'm sorry for people who feel their relationship is a prison sentence. That should not be the case. However, they should look at why they feel that way rather than just assuming marriage is the end of a man's life.

My fiance and I just did our engagement shoot and someone drove by saying "Don't do it". Super stupid and then we laughed about having a fake ball and chain for a pic but in general, these are super annoying esp because back in the day, women were forced to be married to men they didn't even know so who has the real ball and chain? WOMEN -.-

Yes! The only time I'm ok with Happy wife, happy life is in our case, because we are both the wife! That one always bothered me. I have performed weddings where the groomsmen think it's funny to tease him and ask if he still wants to run while standing at the altar waiting for the bride!!! It takes all I have not to tell them off in front of everyone.

I completely agree! My FH has one of those “Game Over” shirts (kind of like this one) that he’ll wear occasionally. I’m desperately trying to find a “level up” shirt that has the same concept that would have a more positive spin, but I can’t find anything I really like 🙄

I agree this whole mentality is offensive and bizarre. If both parties aren't wholeheartedly on board, please don't get married. And, the signs carried by children? Completely cringe-worthy. Worse, to me, than "too late to run," is a child carrying one that says, "it's okay ladies, I'm still available...." Just because something is on Pinterest doesn't mean it's a good idea.

So true. It just goes back to men being worth more than women. we have to "catch one" because he couldn't possibly want to be with just one of us for the remainder of his life. Like is that real? Lol so horrible. Apparently to most of society we are just vaginas on legs and being with only one is the end of the world because we arent people with depth. So gross. I could never be with someone who thought that way.

Yes it’s annoying. It’s super annoying how our culture raises girls to aspire to marriage. A female is expected to make her life choices always keeping in mind that marriage is the most important. However, we do not teach males the same.
Our society is okay with our sons treating a girl in the manner we would not want a guy to treat our daughter.

    Its completely warped!

I prefer the cute "Player 2 found" shirts or mugs. My fiance and I are both gamers and we game together, so it would be perfect for us. I hate the implications that the husband should be unwilling. It's so ridiculous.

My fiancé thinks they are funny. Probably because he’s into the wedding planning and cannot wait to be married to me. I even asked him if he wanted something silly like that and he said “no” because “that’s not us”.

I also do not like these. I don't get it because majority of the time, (not always) the man asks sooooo why ask if you're dreading it. I get that everyone is different so I just don't comment or laugh or anything when I see them. I just think it's a worn out joke.

Yes!! and the “you’re off the market” crap drives me mad!!! i was off the market when we started dating because i show no interest in others and no one else has a chance and i hate the last night of freedom thing as well... it makes for very toxic and hurtful verbiage about marriage. i don’t feel like all guys are like this and it’s a stigma and a societal norm that no one talks about.
