Is anyone else a "Lazy Bride"?

Heather, on June 10, 2011 at 6:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

I am a full time student (During fall/spring) and work 40hrs a week AND am planning our wedding. We got engaged last June and our wedding is September of 2012 so we gave our selves PLENTY of time to plan it. But when we started to plan it i realized Im not as excited about weddings as i thought i would be. When we went to met with vendors we hardly ever looked at more than one per category and just went with the first one we met with (lucky for us this worked out as we love all of our vendors) and im going to try on dresses (and i hate shopping normally) at the end of the month and im not really looking forward to it. I guess i wish i had the money to pay someone else to do all of this work lol

Any one else feel this way??

I can totally understand where you're coming from. Though I don't know I'd classify yu or I as "lazy", I think we have a diff. approach to things.

I kind of did the same thing for vendors -- had priced out others online and looked around a wee bit, but ended up using photographers, florist, DJ that the hotel had on their recommended sheet (just chose the ones I thought were decent price and that seemed the most professional) ... turns out even our Pastor, who we found via recommendations from friends of friends, is awesome. We're loving everything we chose, even if there was little-to-no effort it seems.

Just FYI about dress shopping ... I picked one I love, but did NOT have the "this is the one and I'll die without it" crying moment that's shown on TV so much. I wasn't enthused about trying stuff on (moreso b/c I'm plus-sized these days and knew none of the samples would zip up than anything else), but it was a nice experience and I'm happy with my final selection.

Oh, and I really didn't start getting "excited" (or that's the word I've been using when talking to people lately) until the really big stuff was checked off the to-do list. Now that I'm working on details and making the ceremony/reception feel like "us", it's getting a bit more fun (only thing there is trying not to get carried away and buy lots of stuff ... still trying to stick to a budget).

Good luck with your plans! I have had about a year and a half to plan as well. You'll be surprised how quickly Sept. 2012 gets here! Just remember, it's only a few hours of your entire life together and not worth getting super stressed or going broke over (that's my mantra I keep repeatin whenever I get a little overwhelmed with thoughts).

I can totally understand as well. Working 50 hours a week and 2 kids I don't care to invest more time planning the wedding than it will actually take to have a wedding. Luckily my FH has mad google skills and I'm a super efficient planner. Oh yeah and we are blessed with tremendously skillful friends (MOH is a baker, FFIL a pastor, BM cosmetologist, Mom's BF caterer). I think as long as you ensure the people you hire are professionals, seee your vision and fit your price range why would you need to interview dozens?

@Theresa P- im a receptionist too and look at stuff @ work lol. Im also worry a lot about everything so i kind of just wanted to get everything done so i wouldnt have to stress about doing this last minute.

@Korazin-your lucky!! I wish i had hook-ups like that!! the only one i have is my aunt, who is an ordained minister will be doing our ceremony, but other than our friends and family are no help hookup wise lol

@Kara K.-That is a really good mantra to have and an awesome way to look at it!! As far as making our guest happy im doing my best but at the end of the day ill i want to happen is to get married and as long as him and i are happy and that gets done i dont really care about anyone else lol a friend of mine was telling me about how everything was going wrong on her wedding and she got to a point were she was like "all i want to do it walk down the isle and marry the love of my life, make that happen" to her MOH. i KNOW that will be me lol Alter than Bar!!!

I'm not necessarily a lazy bride. But I have no imagination. That's not a joke either. I really can't imagine things, I need to see them in front of me. I have no creativity in my body. So I've been going w/what others tell me. My linens vendor I chose the linens he decide because like I said I can't really see how the colors work. FH can, but he isn't too worried about that stuff. Same w/other stuff. I'm not a put the big picture together type person. So I just went w/what others suggested.

I'm in the same boat- working full time, going to school full time, and planning a wedding. Add in kids, major health issues and a complete lack of patience.

I did some research on vendors- because I do care. But I'm pretty laid back and just don't care about so much of it... Wedding planning is more of a chore than something I truly enjoy anymore.

I'm very excited about the planning aspects..but i'm also in grad school and finishing quals/trying to propose my dissertation by september 15th, FH visa stuff (which he almost has! yay!), and moving apartments..so I dunno, I've just been taking a very "zen" approach you could say..I honestly feel like stressing out over the details is very unnecessary..FH and I have talked a lot about focusing on happiness in our life together and keeping whats important to us in life in perspective. I'm getting a lil stressed tho about a few things that need to be done..like my MUA hasn't gotten back to me and one BM hasn't ordered the dress. But I know I'll get things done. :-)

Ps- I also wonder how much extra time us brides, myself included, spend on planning that is unnecessary..I shudder to think ! lol! My plan is to go home for a week July 4th and get like all my planning decisions made (consulting FH of course, although he's pretty hands off on the details), things purchased..like a marathon so to speak, so that I'll have very little left to do.

For my first wedding, I was definitely a "lazy bride." I was working 40 hours a week, and going to law school 3/4 time. The reception was a luncheon in a restaurant, so that all the details would be taken care of by just one vendor. And even with that, my MIL did much of the work.

Seriously, the important part is the marriage, not the wedding. Not being excited about the wedding is fine, so long as you're excited about being married to your FS.

AB Z, that is what I did each time I went to FL. That's why I don't have much of the big stuff left to do. I only have some small stuff, like buying my jewelry, card box, etc... I think having your weekend filled w/wedding things, makes it so much easier

See now.. everyone here has good reasons to not be thinking about wedding all the time! I just have a full-time job! I think us moving recently has turned my attention a lot, but this wednesday we're going to go see photographers.

I wouldnt call any of you lazy

Yep, I'm totally a lazy bride. We didn't reserve our ceremony venue until February, I didn't dress shop until March and we just picked out and ordered FH's suit 3 days ago.

I'm definitely a lazy bride. Had I not found this site, I probably wouldn't have gotten as far as I have gotten, which isn't very far. I'm really considering hiring a wedding planner. I get overwhelmed with small details, and some of the stuff I read on here has me scared to plan.

I'm lazyyy. I just started figuring out decorations. If someone else could take care of this stuff, excluding our attire, I'd be a happy camper. haha.

I would say I'm pretty lazy. Mostly, I just HATE wedding planning. UGH. There are a few projects I like, but I hate worrying about if so and so is doing this and so and so is doing that and what's going here, what's going there? KILL ME NOW.

I picked the free venue (my church), the free cake (my pastry chef cousin), the closet flower store (and hey, it's decent priced), and even picked the very first dress I tried on...although I did try on a few more. I think I spent more time on little details like the cake topper than anything else!
