Is a year and a half too long to wait to get married?

Amanda, on September 29, 2017 at 12:11 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 92

I got engaged back in June and life has been crazy since. My grandmother passed away and my family has kind of been in limbo. I had originally wanted a July or September wedding next year but considering nothing has been done and and I want a year to plan I don't think that will happen. Now I'm thinking March, I LOVE the idea of a spring wedding. I was thinking this might be too long to wait (almost two years). I'm worried our friend group will change and it will be difficult to get everyone together. Thoughts?

A year and a half doesn't sound too long to me. That is what I am doing. I don't think your friend group will change that much in a few additional months.

I did a year and a month. Anything less than a year was too short for me. Anything longer than 2 was too long for me. 1.5 is perfect Smiley smile

My engagement will be 2.5 years long, I've enjoyed doing things a little at a time and we will edit our guest list closer to the one year mark

No . That's how long my engagement is and I still feel like it's not long enough. I should have gone with a two year engagement.

18 months is too long for me. But we are all different. It seems like a year and a half is a VERY common length of time! And since youve got a while, the guest list can probably wait a while. I would suggest considering a rough number of guests, as that will affect your planning greatly. Venue size, catering, decor for 10 tables? 30?

Love it! When FH and I get married it will be the anniversary of our FOURTH year being engaged. One more year and we could have gotten a movie out of it. Lolol. In all reality, don't worry about it. Friend group's are going to change, regardless. Just enjoy it while you can.

A year and a half is not too long. But! I suggest that you wait to pick your bridal party!! I got engaged December or 2015. And picked my bridal party march 2016. LOTS of stuff has changed since then!! I wish I would have waited because I have at least 3 bridesmaids I wish I didn't ask. That sounds rude but it's true. They are still my friends, and always will be, but things change. People move on with their lives and you kind of separate a little. Think about it and wait as long as possible.

Enjoy your engagement! You're going to spend your whole lives together anyway so what does it matter how that time is divided up!

We'll be engaged for 2 years once we say "I do." I honestly couldn't imagine a shorter engagement. It's given us more time to enjoy being engaged, we've been able to save more money, and minimal stress in terms of planning. Spring is beautiful! I vote long engagement.
