Is a wedding ring band necessary

Brittny, on May 24, 2016 at 10:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hi girls! So I do not have my ring on my finger just yet but very soon. The ring he is getting me is one that I absolutely love! I am so excited at what he has chosen! So my question is that if a wedding band is really necessary for a ring that appears to already have multiple bands that wrap around it? Or if it is even necessary at all? I am quite happy with it itself but my mother has told me before that I should have a band, but she has not seen the ring. Have any of you skipped on the band at all?

A wedding band is not necessary if it's not something you want! (Very pretty ring, by the way!) You're the one wearing it and you should be happy and comfortable; if that entails not wearing a wedding band, then that's your choice.

I feel that it's a very personal choice, so it's up to you! It's a beautiful ring - don't feel pressured to add to it, but be prepared for some questions and stupid responses explaining "why you NEED a band for a successful marriage" or some other nonsensical shit.

What I've always heard is the engagement ring is a promise, the wedding band is making good on your promise. Personally I love the symbolization of both.

You definitely don't need a wedding band and an engagement ring! FH and I had our wedding bands custom made (designed from sketches to wax to gold). We had a stone set into mine so I could wear just the single ring. ETA photo

It's up to you. I honestly was in the same boat with you, but then chose to have an identical a small band made. We have them done in July.

My ring is super similar to yours. I'm not getting a band. It has nothing to do with the success of your marriage. Anyone who believes that is a whack.

Gonna go against the grain here...I think the wedding band is *far more* necessary as it represents the marriage vows. Don't get me wrong, I love my e ring, but it's not the same.

I wasn't gonna get one but then someone at work said "I see you're engaged..." It didn't occur to me people might think I'm engaged forever, so I'll probably pick up a simple band. My mom just wears 1 ring.

I wasn't going to, because I was having such a hard time finding one I liked to go with my e-ring. The prongs on a marquise stick down further at the bottom, making it hard to get a ring flush. And then I have side diamonds too, so a lot of guards or wraps or contoured bands had a hard time with that. I absolutely love my ring.. the simplicity of it and would have been happy forever wearing it alone. But FH was pretty adamant I have something to symbolize our union. What started as a proposal in 2012, has gotten drawn out a lot longer than either of us thought it ever would. So for him I think it's mental, a sign that we've moved beyond that stage both as a physical reminder to him, as well as to anyone else... lol
