Is a videographer worth it?

KittenPurrFace, on August 18, 2010 at 4:14 PM

People have told me I will only watch it a couple times, so I should skip it. But I have seen some beautiful ones (like Sharon's!). Thoughts?

We MADE room in the budget for a videographer, but we compromised and got the ceremony only, to save SOME... We'll take some homemade video at the reception to catch the main moments. But the ceremony video will get shots of the crowd and relatives as well. good luck.

We are just having my dad take a video for us, and getting a photographer..My dad has always been into taking videos at family functions, and recently took one of my cousin's wedding which was pretty good. I'll prob get my aunt or uncle to take it of us walking down the aisle. I dont' expect him to tape the whole time, just the main things and a bit of the party. If I were him I would think it would distract me from soaking up the moments, but he disagrees! :-)

All 3 of my siblings had them at their first weddings, the videos they got were great (Yeah, I said first). I plan on having one at my wedding too Smiley smile Photos are great, but nothing captures the moment better than a video. I have a feeling the wedding is going to be so crazy that I won't remember everything, I would like to be able to look back.

There was a couple who opted to have a videographer at their wedding.... 2 months later the bride lost her groom to a car wreck. she will forever cherish the ability to see her husband and hear his voice telling her that they will be there for one another forever. Without the video all she would have had was the photos, no voice telling her his promise. *sniff* I say get one even if you have to have a friend do it!

Booked him today... I'm looking forward to it, because I tend to space out when I'm incredibly happy! I don't even remember what FH said to me when he proposed, I was so caught up in the moment!

I am hesitant too because that will cost about $2000 just for the ceremony (that's just one hour).

After reading all your comments I might reconsider and try to find someone not as expensive or ask someone to do it even if not professionally.

YES IT IS SO WORTH IT!!!!!!!!! My videographer did such an amazing job, I watched the video almost daily for months after the wedding. And I continue to watch it every now and then. He does amazing work and has a lot of videos on his site you can view, www.ourweddingvideo.com

Here is the link to mine: http://www.ourweddingvideo.com/HD_Theater/Pages/Lindsay.html

We wanted a video but we also wanted to not spend an arm and leg for it. Talk to some people in your town and maybe there is a person who does this work on the side. Our videographer is a full time teacher at the local high school and does video services on the side. He gave us samples and they were good enough for us. We just want the video to capture the moment. We are getting 3 cameras through ceremony and reception for $400

I would not give up a videographer for the world. My Dad was in the navy for 21 years and every time he was on deployment I swear I watched my parents wedding video over and over and over just so I could hear his voice and see them together.

I want to have those memories both for myself and for my children should they ever miss me or FH like that for any reason or should they just want to see how in love we were the day we got married Smiley smile

We didnt have the money for one but one of my friends dads is really good with that kind of stuff, so he taped the wedding and made a video for us. Its nice to have and look back on! Maybe someone you know can do it for you?

I wasn't going to get one due to budget either. But then I talked to someone that told me the day is a blur, and you don't remember speeches and you don't get to see what your wedding party does for their enterance, so it's a good idea to have one so you can see all the small stuff that happens that day!

Think of it like hiring a photographer. Would you hire a photographer if his portfolio was so boring that you knew you'd never look at the pictures? Find videographers that do work that you love to watch...then choose the one out of those that fits your budget. A good video doesn't have to be expensive...it just has to be good! Many videographers, photographers, DJ's, musicians, etc, just do weddings part time, so their pricing can have almost NO correlation with the quality of their service. It takes you, the customer, to shop around and find the best fit for your tastes and your budget. My clients repeatedly tell me that the video was the best investment they made!

Also, make sure your videographer can guarantee a delivery time, IN WRITING. Do the same with your photographer. Inexperienced or weekend warrior vendors can get in over their head taking more bookings than they can handle. That's how they end up on the People's Court. Smiley winking

    Good luck!!

Vanessa that is EXACTLY one of the reasons why I want a video! At first we weren't going to but I started shopping around online for something cheap. We don't need more than one videographer or any fancy editing. We just want the raw footage. I found someone online in our area that could do it for $500. My WP looked over the contract and everything and she gave the go ahead and we got receipts from them and everything for our deposit.

If it did happen to be fraud for some reason FH put it on his credit card so it would be no problem getting it back. I'm a little nervous but I think it will be ok. They had some nice samples on their website. The package actually includes editing but it would edit it down to a 20min highlight DVD and we didn't want them cutting stuff out so we told them not to bother and to just tape it and give it to us.

I whole heartedly agree that getting a pro video is something every couple should strive for. I can tell you from painful experience it is something you'll wish you had.

Unfortunately not everyone can afford a pro, that's a reality. Does that mean you should give up on capturing your day on video? Our company has developed a new product that allows you to get a professionally edited 20-30 minute movie of the best scenes for $200. Either use our Flip camera we provide or use the footage from your friend's or family's camcorder. These are also a great addition to the pro footage because it will capture a lot of moments the pro cannot focus on.

Right now we're looking for brides to try out this new product for only $100. Check out more info at:http://weddings.storymixmedia.com/wedding-video-personal-videos-photos.html

Anyone interested in this special offer can send me a message or email ********@*************.***. I'll provide you a coupon code to get 50% off your order.

Yes! I always tell couples...even if you can't afford a budget for a professional AT LEAST have someone bring their video camera to document the day!

DO IT!!! Without a doubt...I can't tell you enough how happy you will be that you have one. I've seen soooooooo many brides regret not having one, or skimping and having a friend do a crummy one...but never once have I heard a bride say that looking back they would have cut it out. NEVER! DO IT! trust me

If you don't think it's in your budget to hire a professional, try contact some of the local tv/film programs in your area. You can probably get very eager students to tape the wedding for you at a very reasonable rate. Just make sure you discuss what you want ahead of time.

My FS teaches broadcasting and he's already decided that he's going to have a bunch of his students videotape the wedding from multiple angles and then have a very talented editor friend put everything together.

Every thing I've read about videographers is that brides that DON'T get one regret that the most.
