Is a day-of wedding coordinator/planner worth it?

Leah, on November 21, 2017 at 1:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 27

I have done the majority of my planning already on my own (all vendors are booked, dress purchased, clear vision for overall look of the reception,etc.). However, I'm now starting to get a little nervous about the timeline & just the overall execution of the day, since I won't be able to oversee everything on my own. All of my close friends are my bridesmaids, so I can't really assign the day of tasks to any of them. Can some of you weigh in on your opinion on a day of coordinator? Or, what you did instead of using a coordinator? It seems like the going rate I have been seeing is between $800-$1,500 & while I think it would definitely be an awesome service to have, I just don't really have it in my budget at this point.

A reception (the food, the booze, the music) is a gift to your guests...a DOC is a gift to yourself and FS.

Following! I met with one and even she complimented me on how detail-oriented and on top of things I was...not sure if we absolutely need her or not

I was going to do the same as you...then about halfway through wedding planning decided I'd rather have someone else worry about the timeline and dealing with vendors. I've had one friend who had a DOC and her wedding ran fairly well. The other wedding I was in didn't have one and honestly it was kind of a mess. If you have a venue coordinator of some kind maybe they'd be able to help?

I just hired a day of wedding coordinator. I was in the same situation I had all of the big stuff planned and thankfully my venue provides an on site coordinator. I was concerned about our ceremony. I was able to find coordinator thanks to wedding wire and she charges $500 and I am already so glad I hired her. If you can afford it definitely do it!

Absolutely! A DOC will help keep everything organized and streamlined. They are well worth the expense.

I just hired a DOC. I was debating whether or not I wanted to spend the money on it but I decided that I don't want to have to worry about making sure things are done the day of the wedding and I just want my bridal party and my mom to be able to relax and not have to worry about any of the details! I ended up finding someone for $1200 which is pretty reasonable for my area

I hired a DOC. I was on the fence for it and everyone in the BP, M and FMIL all kept saying don't waste the money they'll help set up so I gave up on it for a while. However, after reading all the BAMS on here I thought it's worth it to not have to worry about the timeline, logistics or set up and break down and organize the timeline and keeps everything on track. FSIL got married a few years ago and said if she could go back and do it over again she would 100% hire one, so I did.

We cut out florals to be able to afford a DOC because I felt it was more important. She takes over planning 60 days in advance and communicates with all the vendors and sets up their timelines and facilitates the Rehearsal. She and her asst. are with us all day, and if she does her job it will 10000% be worth the money.

We didn't. Our fairly inclusive venue provided all the necessary personnel. In fact, they told us we didn't need one. They had been in business 100 years, with 5 star reviews and service.

@Alexandra R., my venue provides a somewhat coordinator, I should say. They handle all the venue/reception aspects provided by the venue like tables, chairs, food, etc. and they do see to it that the vendors know where to go, but that's it.

A great DOC is worth every cent; a new/learning/friendor is just going to get in everyone's way. If you're in NJ/NY, I have three great ones I work with all the time and I'd recommend them without a second thought.

We did not have DOC and didn't really need one. I don't regret not hiring a DOC. Our venue came with a "coordinator"/ point person, who was the same person we worked with throughout the whole process. I created a timeline, and circulated it with the wedding party. Our photographer knew our timeline and kept us on schedule for pictures and into the ceremony. Our DJ also had the timeline and stayed on it during the reception. Our ceremony started on time, finished on time, same with reception. My friend got married a few weeks and also didn't have a DOC. Her wedding was also great: on time, smooth etc. She also created a detailed timeline, shared it with all of us and her photographer. She had a venue coordinator but not a separate DOC. If you have the budget for a DOC, it sounds as though having one is great, but for me, not having DOC was a great place to save money.

I don't have one because the two venue vendor owners, who have massive amounts of experience working with the other vendors I hired, will be my DOCs. They told me they take care of everything associated with their respective venue.

I also LOVE to organize and plan, so this just makes me giddy (I'm weird I know lol)

Seriously, it was the best money we spent on our wedding. 100% necessary.

Every wedding vendor team needs a captain. Contracting your own DOC is not an expense, it's an investment. Best wishes!

We didn't hire one, and while there were a few moments where in hindsight it might have been nice, i don't think it's necessary. it depends on how much help you have from friends and family (a UO here , i know, but in our circle it is common to offer help) and how much your venue is doing (our venue had a coordinator on site who was our point person for the day and was very helpful).

I just hired one too. After reading everyone's BAMs, I was convinced.
