Is 15 too young to be a Bridesmaid?

Wendy, on August 6, 2013 at 2:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

Hi All! I'm new to this and need advise for Wedding next year?

I want to ask my little cousin (who will be 15 in Feb) to be a Bridesmaid, do you think that would be appropiate? (The rest of my bridal party will be 29 and 36.

Also can someone please tell me what all the abbreviations stand for too?

I had my 13 year old niece as my jr bm. She had a great time with my other ladies and really enjoyed feeling like a big girl in the bridal party! I think it would be great to include her!

Yes, 15 is too young in most cases. Odds are she won't be able to attend your bachelorette party, pay for a dress, shoes, hair/makeup, and everything else that comes with being a BM typically, or even drive herself to wedding-related events. The costs and effort will end up falling to her parents or you.

I'd suggest finding another role for her. She probably doesn't want to hang around with women in their late 20s and early 30s anyway. Could she be a reader? Your "personal assistant" on the day of?

My daughter is 13 and will be 14 at the time of our wedding and she is going to be my Junior Bridesmaid Smiley smile - Although she looks like she is 18 yrs old. I don't see anything wrong with it, it's your wedding Smiley winking

    I don't think she's too young for a bridesmaid.

I was a Jr Bridesmaid twice and a Bridesmaid once before I was 13. Totally acceptable.

My cousin is 15 and I have her as a bridesmaid. I didn't want to call her a Jr. bridesmaid (especially since she's like 5'9"). So she'll be recognized and participate with everyone else, excluding the age inappropriate activities.

On the wedding morning, I'm going to have several girly drink mixers not alcoholic that way she can have the same drinks as us just with club soda mixed in instead of champagne.

My 17 yr old sister will be my MOH. I personally think that you should feel free to pick who you WANT to be in your Bridal Party, regardless of age or their ability to pay for a dress. If she's too young to attend the bachelorette party or showers, you could always take her out for lunch or a special girls date, just the two of you.

I would say junior bridesmaid would be appropriate.

My 14 year old step sister will be a bridesmaid in my wedding. I mentioned to her the cost of everything because that was a concern I had. She talked to her dad about the cost to see if it would work.

Im excited to have her in my wedding. She is also coming to the bachelorette party for the days by the pool and dinners. Then when we go out she will stay with FSIL who is also under 21 and hang out in the hotel room

@ItsAlreadyPerfect: of course she's free to choose whomever she'd like for her bridal party. I'm just pointing out some really common issues that we see come up all the time with choosing bridesmaids.

Pick whoever you want, just keep expectations in line with reality and communicate exactly what you need from her.
