Irregular period, What to do for wedding day?

Nicolette, on July 18, 2015 at 9:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

Hey all.

My period is super irregular, I can go months without getting one and then have a super heavy one and then it will be normal for a couple months and then back to it's antics. I have poly cystic ovarian syndrome, which is why I have this. So I can't really track my period just need to hope and pray I don't get it the day of. What do you brides who had your period on your day do?

My luck, it so would! Damn womanhood! I'm so worried becase (sorry for TMI) I can bleed SO heavy and soak through a pad in less than an hour and I hate tampons so i don't even know what i would do. Makes me kind of want to put on black biker shorts underneath my gown!

My mother had the same condition. She was prescribed the birth control pill in order to regulate it. Maybe you could ask your doctor about this?

I also have PCOS. I take birth control to regulate my period and have for years. I would talk to your doctor and see about going on birth control and/or metformin (both common for people with PCOS to take). There are other alternatives to birth control, but that is the most common thing prescribed for PCOS. Otherwise it is a risk that you could get it day of.

My doctor and I have been working to find a pill that doesn't have side effects worse than not taking it. We may have found one so I have an appointment on Tuesday *fingers crossed*.

They have tampons that are sleek and you barely know are there or as Alyssa said birth control can regulate it. This happened to my friend and she just had to keep going to the bathroom and changing. But remember you will be on your feet alot and drinking which increases the flow so you may want to look at the two options I listed first. Or just pray like hell it doesn't come that day.

I would also check into the pill. You have plenty of time to try different ones to see what works. Worse case scenario, you can always put a tampon in the day of your wedding just as a precaution and change it as you normally would as if you had your period.

I don't know about pcos, but if the pill can work for you, I hope it does- I love it. I've had to try at least 7 different ones to figure out one without side effects I don't like. But the pill usually makes your period SO much lighter, more regular, and helps with any pain. And if you don't want your period you can just move onto a new pack and skip the placebo. (of course talk to your doc, I'm no expert) Also, I'm on nuvaring now, which I also love and its even easier than a pill because you don't have to remember to take a pill every day.

I actually just got a prescription from my doctor to be a step ahead of this issue because it just happens mine is due during that weekend. My doctor told me to start the next pack instead of the placebos. Womenhood is cruel. Good luck!

Birth control pills can often help, if you just take them continuously rather than skipping a week. However, you may want to try this ahead of time, as some women have a long period of bleeding when they first start the pills.

Otherwise, you just have to take your chances. If it starts, you can use super tampons, and change them as frequently as possible. And it is fully possible to have sex during your period. Just put a towel under you if you're concerned.

I did some research on the Diva Cup. It is a small, bell shaped cup that you put inside you that holds the menstrual flow. It can stay inside you for up to 12 hours (I believe). There are also disposable forms, but they have a different name.

Although, if you don't like to use tampons, this might not be ideal for you.

I talked to my Dr about this last month. I'm not on the pill, however he suggested we try some low dose birth control pills that I could start a couple of months before my wedding next June. Skip the placebo pills, skip the period. He actually suggested I try some out now, just to see which works best for me. So sometime in the next couple months I'm going to try that. Just an idea. Smiley smile Its definitely not something I want to worry about the week of my wedding.

I have that too and endometriosis. If you're experiencing any pain the BC helps immensely. I know you said you're worried about side effects buy keep in mind different pills react differently with different people. You might not experience any of the side effects listed and if you do you call the doctor and they prescribe a different one. I was on 3 until we found one that works for me.

I'm in the middle of figuring out what is wrong with my periods... they most time in between a period for me is 9 days from the day it ends to the next one starts. I had been on birth control but stopped over a year ago and recently went back on it because I would of had it for the wedding and honeymoon. I would definitely try out birth control if your worried

@Rachel, you should get your doctor to switch you to a different pill with higher progesterone and less estrogen.

I had my period on my wedding day. Nothing happened. It was fine. It was like a normal period.
