Inviting the Pope.

Ashley, on August 10, 2011 at 9:10 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Has anyone actually ever received a response from the Pope? I was looking through all the old threads about inviting famous people, and I didn't see where anyone has ever received a response from him...Just wanted to know if anyone has....

The only responses I've seen that are actually sent are from the President and Mickey and Minnie.

Personally, I wouldn't want to waste money on an invitation for someone who I don't know and who won't come... lol

My FH & I plan on sending out invitations to a list of famous people - we've bought much less expensive invites from Hallmark (these people don't look at the invites anyway so it shouldn't matter) and we're probably not including RSVP cards for obvious reasons... (they won't rsvp...) I haven't heard the Pope writing back or the Queen of England but I could be wrong - it's worth a try!

@Future Mrs.: We figured regardless of who the president is it would be neat to put in a scrapbook to show our kids/gradkids/great grand kids. Just something neat to look back on.

I know the Queen of England will not reply unless you are British, haven't heard about the Pope. But the President's are actually signed by the President if you're interested. I'm not his biggest fan, but I love the idea of a little souvenir Smiley smile

PS - @Kimi LOVE the idea of cheapio invites!!!

Thanks guys! EXCELLENT idea buying cheap, alternative wedding invites! Definitely not sending one to the Queen, because I've read the same thing about her only replying if you're British. I would invite the President so I could get a fun Congrats card, if it were ANYONE in office BUT Obama. (Not trying to start a political post here, it's just my personal preference.) I am inviting George Bush though, and hoping I get some sort of generic letter from him!

My understanding is that the Pope actually sends a scrolled Papal Blessing in response to a wedding invitation.

I wonder if Kate and William would respond to a wedding invite since The Queen doesnt? You know we would all like to have something signed by Kate and William.. I know I would!

FYI. The pope does not send a papal blessing in response to a wedding invitation. To receive one you must go through your diocese and there is a fee.
