Invites for guests out of the country?

KW, on March 9, 2017 at 10:14 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Calling anyone who has invited guests from out of the country!

We have a fair amount of guests that are being invited from the UK. I sent our save the dates over with these international forever stamps: https://store.usps.com/store/browse/productDetailSingleSku.jsp?productId=S_589204

made it over ok and I plan to use these stamps to send the invitations as well. Does anyone know if these stamps going to work for the guests to send their RSVPs back to us (UK to US)?

No, US stamps won't work for them, just ask them to let you know via e mail or phone Smiley smile

About 60% of our guests reside overseas... we are doing online RSVP's for this reason as well. Plus it's more environmentally friendly Smiley winking

ETA: Just have them RSVP online or via email to you.

Yup - this is a huge problem for us (although we are out of the country to begin with) and why we are doing online RSVPs.

The two options are don't stamp the return envelopes for foreign guests and/or have an online/phone option. You could do the online phone version just for the foreign guests.

When I get invites to US weddings, they don't bother with the stamp for me - and i usually end up texting or emailing my RSVP because of my work schedule. I'm usually the only foreign invitee so hopefully it isn't too inconvenient for the couple, but if you know you're having a bunch you might as well make it easy on yourself.

We had a bunch of invitations going to South America. I had a friend bring them down and I gave her money to buy local stamps to mail them when she was there (she offered). I put a little note in there for the guests to let me know by taking a picture of the RSVP, texting, emailing or facebooking me with the response. I didn't want to worry about postage and it getting lost. Just cut out the middle man and thanked the technology gods. We didn't have any issues, everyone let me know prior to the date listed on the RSVP.

I could definitely do the online RSVPs, that didn't even cross my mind. However, I do have quite a few older guests coming from the US that might be kind of weird about that. Should I print 2 separate invitations--one for the US guests to mail back and the other for the UK guests to RSVP online? Or do I need to keep it consistent across the board? My other idea was to ask my FMIL to pick up international UK stamps for me and I'd just pay her back for them.

@MDbride adding a note is a great idea. I may just do that--seems like the most simple way to do it.

So we live in the states are getting married in the UK and the guest list broke down to about 1/3 US 1/3 Ireland and 1/3 UK with a few outliers. I ordered international irish stamps online and they shipped to the states no problem. For ten it came to like $15. I mailed them from the UK so I bought those stamps there. I would think if you really wanted to you could order a UK international stamps book online. For the outliers I just didn't include a stamp because it was too tricky to get one international stamps from four different countries. They RSVP'd by email no problem.

I invited 3 guests who are out of the country. All of my invites have the option for guests to RSVP via snail mail (they will have to purchase a stamp), or go to our website and RSVP online.

I just typed and printed them out at home on regular paper and slipped them inside the envelopes, six to a sheet, cut them myself. It was super easy, and everyone understands. As long as their are options for people to respond to you, that's convenient and doesn't cost them money, you're fine.

We have a few in Germany, so I'll stick an RSVP postcard in there to give them the option, but also probably send a note to just e-mail us/facebook message if they'd prefer.

@GymRat I was under the impression that the guests should not have to provide their own stamp? What about older guests who aren't tech-savvy? Or are you only doing that for the 3 out of the country guests?

I sent mine directly from the post office (to Japan) since we only had one and put a regular US stamp on the RSVP card and we received it back just fine. My FH opened it so I never saw the envelope so I can't say for certain they didn't have to add anything.

@WK we have some older guests who don't use the internet either. You can call these people (I doubt there are more than a handful) and get their response like that. I'm sure they would love to hear from you too!

In my opinion ordering stamps from another country just so someone can mail you a card back is a major waste of time and money. You are *supposed* to send an RSVP card with a stamp... so just don't do paper RSVPs, do online/email.

Everyone will understand -- I've been invited to dozens of US weddings and they also had the online RSVP even though the guest list was entirely in the United States. It's been years since I've received a paper rsvp card now that I think about it!

I am in the same boat with a huge portion that is international. Our maid of honor is in the U.K. so we sent our invites to her to return stamp the envelopes. We have her 100 pounds to cover cost of postage and her time even though she offered to do it for free.

I put a note in my invites going to the UK to email me. I was 99% positive all would decline.

Sorry, I meant just those 3 guests who do not live in the U.S. will not have a stamp on their RSVP envelope. All other guests have a stamp. In every invite, there is a details card that tells all guests they can also choose to RSVP online.
