Invitations to out of town guests, when to send?

Misty, on March 11, 2013 at 5:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I've sent out Save the Dates already. When should I send out the invitations to guests coming from out of town?

Invitations go out 6 - 8 weeks before your wedding. Did your STD's include hotel information, etc? OOT guests should have been able to start making arrangements from your STD, so the invites don't need to go out any earlier than usual.

You usually send out your invites two months before your actually wedding date., you don't want to send them out too early because some ppl forget and you definitely don't want that.. Trust me I know lol.. Good luck!!

The STD's did not include hotel info. So I was planning on sending invites to everyone 8 weeks prior, but I thought I'd send them for out of town guests earlier.

So since the STD's didn't include info for them, when should I send these to the OOT guests?

No you don't necessarily have to send them out earlier.. If you want maybe call the out of guests and give them a heads up on the wedding date.. Just a thought..

Still 6 - 8 weeks out. Smiley smile Longer than that and they get tossed in the "I'll do it later pile," no matter where they live.

Do you have a wedding website? Was that information on the STD? If so, put the info on the wedding website and email/PM your guests and let them know the info is there. Or send them emails with that information.

No OOT guests have started calling you about that info yet? Is it possible any have made their own arrangements?

Ours is a small wedding--only about 50ish guests, and they're almost all family and a few close friends. There are 6 households that are coming from out of town. 2 of my sisters will probably stay with family. A friend already has her plane ticket and has family out here who they'll stay with. If my uncle comes, he would likely stay with family. This leaves 2 households that will likely need lodging. I told them verbally about the nearby hotel and the deal they have with our venue. But I don't know if they've booked it yet or what. Sometimes people just need the info in their hot little hands.

I do have a wedding website now...almost finished. But back then, I didn't know if I'd have enough time to get it put together, so i didn't put the web address on my STD's. My job let me go, and I've had a little more time on my hands :-/.

So the website is almost done. Just waiting for FH to write his little blurb about when we first met...

If it's only two households, you don't have much to worry about. I'd simply call or email them with a reminder of the deal with the hotel, include links or the phone number and that's it.

I think you'll be fine, nothing to worry about, just send them about at 8 weeks and finish up your last minute details!

You sent std's so you can send at regular time. I however sent mine 12 weeks before the wedding, with an RSVP date of 6 weeks before the wedding. I have mailed to some of the guests before and mail took over 2 weeks (16 days)just to get to them. So I thought if I mail this 6 wees before and it takes 2 weeks to get to some of these people and 2 weeks to get back and my deadline at my daterer is about a week before they would have to basically send it back the day they got it.

Leaving them and myself time left no room for stress, they could hold onto the invite 2-4 weeks depending on when they got it and decice if they could afford it/book whatever and I didn't have to wait on invites. I had all but 4 within a week of my RSVP date and then called the last 4 the next week.

Also make your RSVP date a monday, so you have 4 more postage days to receive before calling. then the following Mon call people

Send them ALL the same time, other wise aunt mary calls aunt marge

Who didn't get her's yet and aunt marge gets a stick up her ass thinking she's not invited, or her invite is lost.

I have my rsvps return date as May 17. It's plenty of time. I figure a week after that I'll call everyone.
