Introduction and Timeline for a reception with no dancing

Becky, on August 22, 2012 at 3:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 6

Hi! This is my first post on Wedding Wire!! I am getting married next month and we are not having dancing. We are just having cocktail hour and a nice sit down dinner. We will have music playing during cocktail hour and during dinner just no DJ and dance music (well, atleast until after dinner is done). I can't decide if I want us to be annouced into the reception area (which is actually a restaurant at a hotel). If we did, we'd have to have one our guests announce us- probably my fiance's father. Has anyone done this? If so, what did you say for the introduction. Also, when are the toasts supposed to occur? Anyone have any recommendations for the timeline? We need to elongate dinner a bit but we have four hours of open bar and that includes cocktail hour.

Thanks to anyone that can help us!! =)

We didn't have a DJ and really didn't have any dancing (besides our first dance). We just kind of winged it as far as the timeline went. We didn't get announced (I didn't want to, but our friend would have done it if I had) and we ate once we got to the reception (which "started" about an hour before we arrived) then did the cake cutting soon after everyone was done eating. The only other thing we did was the first dance, which we just kind of decided to do at the last minute anyway (of course I had the song we had discussed on my ipod which we were using for music).

Thank you!!! We have four hours- we are going to have our cocktail hour last an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes so that leaves just around 3 hours for our dinner portion. We have having four courses and there is a bar in the restaurant and if the weather is good then we are getting married outside on the terrace and there is seating out there so hopefully people will stay around to drink. It's a view of Washington, DC so hoping the view would keep them around too!! =) It's also a small wedding- 70 people- family and close friends.

I'm going to ask the hotel to pace the food- I don't want people finishing up on their first course only to have their second course already there. I want to give it a few minutes in between. I know when I go out to restaurants I like to enjoy it and not be rushed so I'm sort of using that same philosophy for our wedding. =)

I hope you'll consider updating your avatar to a unique picture -- the default rings sometimes get lost in the crowd. Smiley sad Here's how to do that and more: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/new-to-the-weddingwire-forums-please-read-before-you-post/b433c40c1a62b96a.html
