Intoxication on your big day

Will you guys be drinking at your reception? My family keeps telling me I shouldn’t at all. Which is upsetting, I want to have fun! I’m not trying to get sloppy drunk, will you guys be opting out of drinking?

Some don't even have liquor at their reception but if it's what you want then go for it. You definitely don't have to get sloppy drunk to have fun. FH and I will be drinking for sure. We know our limit but we also don't want to have incriminating photos or video to look back on lol. At least not of us. Why are they so against you drinking anyway?

I'm with everyone else, drink away! I too will be keeping it less than what I would normally drink at a party or even someone else's wedding. But still, a mimosa or two in the morning, maybe a glass of wine before the walk down to aisle to steady nerves. I think mostly I'll stick to wine all night actually. I tend to be more in control and aware of how it's hitting, liquor tends to sneak up on me haha. You know your tolerance, enjoy yourself!

Our church says no drinking beforehand (with a 1:30 start we may have a mimosa or two while getting ready early AM). So mostly we will wait until after. Same as above, we don’t plan on getting too drunk Smiley smile and there likely won’t be time to do that anyway.

I had about a half a glass of champagne hahaha.

But alcohol upsets my stomach and worsens my depression so I don’t really drink much to begin with anyway, so maybe I’m not the right one to ask lol.

I definitely think there’s nothing wrong with having a couple drinks at your wedding, the only reason I’d advise against it is because honestly everything goes by SO FAST, and at least for me the entire day felt completely surreal and like I was in a bubble, and I feel like if I had even 1 real drink it would’ve just made the whole thing feel even more distant and unreal which I didn’t want! You know they always say “enjoy every moment” but honestly even completely sober, it was hard to do that because it all just happens so quickly and so intensely.

So like. I wouldn’t say “don’t drink at all” but I also would advise you to maybe set a limit for yourself in advance for the max amount you want to drink, and also in the moment be open to changing your mind and deciding to drink less or not at all. You can see how you feel at the time Smiley smile

That’s silly. If you’re old enough to get married (and legally drink), that’s your choice. Beer and wine are fine if you’re concerned about cost or anyone partying too hard (not that they can’t drink too much with the other stuff but hard liquor can sneak up on people... or if they pound shots).

Haha I’m sure it would! We will not be having a honeymoon as we are making a cross country move less than a month after our wedding! Gotta make sure we have enough money for the drive, etc. Probably on our one year or sometime after though!

Not really worried about others, I have a very hardcore drinking family and friends. I am a fan of hard liquor as I have an extremely high tolerance (which I just learned why exactly in biochemistry, whole different chemical reaction than those with a low tolerance, sorry I’m a nerdy chemist 😂) Anyway, my list has tequila for shots, cheaper tequila for blended beverages, vodka, whiskey, beer and wine. I’m stoked and we are not paying for the alcohol, my FH’s parents are so I think why not totally enjoy it?! It’s mostly my mother who is judgey with the alcohol, so I was overthinking it. I think I will be drinking, sounds like not everyone gets crazy drunk from how busy you are.

When we went to Vegas where the proposal happened I drank starting in the morning until 2am or so, and was never drunk at all barely got to a buzzed point from all the walking and activities we did. I think I will be good.
Thank you for everyone who gave some input/insight. I love how supportive everyone has been.

Haha!! My fiance and I couldn't imagine NOT drinking at our wedding. We're not going to get crazy drunk as we have two daughters, a room full of family and we have to stay a little while after the wedding to help put things away. So there is definitely no way that we would get drunk. But maybe a bit tipsy and with all that dancing we're going to be doing, I doubt we'd even have the chance to get drunk

I for sure will. All of the time and effort and stress into putting everything together... you can bet we will be drinking. like everyone else is saying its one thing to have a few drinks, it is another to get sloppy.

I plan on having a few drinks at the reception (and probably a mimosa while me and my girls are getting ready) but I definitely plan on being mindful about what and how much I'm drinking. Now if we end up going out after our reception like we plan to do then I plan on drinking and letting loose a little more.

I'll have a few drinks for sure! Spent a good amount on the bar, may as well reap the benefits!

We will definitely be drinking! We are going to have fun but not get sloppy drunk. There is definitely a middle ground.

The only bride I knew who didn’t drink at her reception has an alcohol allergy! It’s fine to drink as long as you stay within your limits. Enjoy, relax.

Also remember your stomach is emptier than usual because of limited time to eat so be aware when you drink and how much.

FH and I will be drinking at the reception (probably one before, too!) but being responsible so we can enjoy the day and remember it! haha Our wedding is early so we are going to have to pace ourselves so we can party later, too. It's your day, enjoy it!
