Intimate Wedding Ideas

Hey there! My fiancé and I keep flip flopping between big and small wedding celebrations. I would love to hear what some of you have done for small, more intimate celebrations- think a guest list of like 50 or so. Anyone do a weekend of celebrating at some sort of estate or compound? Bonus points if you can share venue ideas in New England!

We are having a wedding for just under 50 people. I currently live in Virginia so we decided to rent a beach house (My first time using AirBNB) right on the water for our venue. We will have a cocktail party reception in the "backyard" which will require so little in decorations thanks to the lovely view. But I'm originally from the Groton/New London area of CT and I would have no doubt there might be something similar available in New England. If you're into more rustic ideas, there have got to be farm type venues. I officiated a wedding on a farm last fall and it was a beautiful event. The best part about your small guest list is the options that you have. Good luck!

We are eloping, but when we were planning a wedding we were doing around 30 people. Depending on what you're looking for though, Whickham Park in Manchester, CT is really beautiful, their cabin garden specifically.

We had a DW in Mexico for 15 people. It was either get away or have a 200 person local wedding. It was amazing and basically zero stress.

I'm having 25 people total including me and Fh. We're doing it in our backyard, which is big and beautiful and full of flowers. We hired a caterer so there will be more than enough food and drinks alcohol and non.

We’re doing a destination wedding in Key West, FL and plan on having 40-50 people. As I’m getting older, I have much more fun at the smaller weddings then the giant affairs. You also seem to have more flexibility with your budget. I suggest you start making a list of the people you absolutely have to invite (parents, siblings, besties, etc) and see how many that adds up to. Then decide if that number and that group of people is going to feel like enough for you. Congrats and happy wedding planning!

We had an intimate wedding with 40 guests. It was a semi-DW so we splurged on our guests by paying for their accommodations for the weekend. We had a welcome dinner Friday evening and a farewell brunch Sunday morning. As for the wedding itself, we were able to offer more by keeping the guest list down. We had live music all day with a string duo and pianist during the ceremony, a solo guitarist during cocktail hour, a 5-piece band for dinner, and then a 9-piece band for dancing. Our menu included lobster, filet mignon, salmon, truffle stuffed chicken breast, and a vegetarian option. We had 2 late night snacks - s'mores and grilled cheese sandwiches. We had a fire pit with chairs and blankets for everyone to take home as well as a photo booth and personalized ornaments. There was also a candy bar, a hot chocolate/cider bar, and an open bar of top shelf alcohol. It was such a fun weekend and everyone really enjoyed how cozy and intimate the wedding was.

This is exactly what we want! Do you mind sharing your budget? Where was your venue?

We were thinking of trying to find an Airbnb too. A lot have a “no party” clause. Ugh. Happy wedding planning to you too!

We got married in Sonoma, CA. Our reception and accommodations were at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa. We ended up spending about $50,000 not including rings or the honeymoon.

I am having a intimate dinner with 44 guest consisting of mostly family and a handful of friends. We originally were planning a big wedding for 2020 with close to 100 guest but the stress wasn't worth it. We just got engaged this past December and literally in march we decided to get married this December 14. We book a venue that would host the ceremony and the reception. We got a food packaged deal from the venue that included pretty much everything I wanted. We have the venue for close to 4 hours and I feel that's enough time for everything. My theme is beauty and the beast. I have been buying majority of the decoration and linens for the wedding to help save on cost. Its an intimate dinner because we wont have a dj during the reception. I will have music playing on a speak on Pandora shuffle. I'm happy we decided small because my stress level hasn't been so high. Our budget has been close to 6k but that's majority for the venue and vendors(violinist for ceremony, cake, flower, photography, officiate). The biggest hurdle was guest list and who to invite. I got into many fights with my FH but we came to an agreement and got passed it. Good luck!
