International Guests/october Weddings

Rachel, on July 8, 2020 at 7:37 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 10
Hi Ladies!

We postponed from May 4 to October 20. Seemed like it was far enough away at the time!! Wondering now if we should just throw in the towel and reschedule to October 2021? My husband's family and most of his groomsmen are coming from Europe. We are all nervous they can't come this year.
What are you guys doing?

I haven’t decided yet. I’m waiting till we get a bit closer to see if my state looks like they’re opening or not. But I have been brainstorming a backup. I don’t have any international guests. My MOH is coming from 8hr away and she’s the furthest that I think will actually come. But my backup plan is an intimate ceremony with 25 guests and just everyone coming to our house after the wedding for cake and punch and then having a big vow renewal at a later date. My venue and photographer are flexible and willing to reschedule without extra fees and both are fine with waiting to make a decision right now.
My FH and I are determined that we’re going to get married on Oct 24, no ifs ands or buts about it.

We are reconsidering our October wedding, which was just a small wedding to begin with, due to health concerns and the virus. We feel it is not a safe time to host a party or reception.

We have postponed from fall 2020 to fall 2021. I would highly suggest you start contacting vendors now to see what dates they have available in 2021, because a lot of people are having trouble even finding dates for next year due to all the covid reschedules. At least then you’ll know what your options are.

I’m sos sorry you are looking at your second postponement. We re scheduled our wedding for November due to international travel. Too many what ifs and quarantine upon arrival home. The travel makes it extra hard to plan.

You should contact your vendors. My venue will not let us postpone our October wedding after explaining to them that people are uncomfortable. Some of the vendors charge extra for rescheduling.

We were in similar boats. I was 4/18, postponed to 8/1, and last night postponed AGAIN to 8/7/21. We came to the realization that people aren't going to follow guidelines and we just couldn't risk the health of our elderly and immunocompromised family members.

We didn't have any international guests, but I know that some countries are more lax with their restrictions and others are more strict.

As far as vendors go, we so far only have one (potentially two) who were already booked. We were fully refunded from the makeup artist. Our venue has been amazing with switching our date twice now.

I'm so sorry. If you want your FH's family, groomsmen, and friends to attend, then I think postponing is your best option.

That's so tough Rachel! The international travel component definitely makes everything more complicated!

If your guests from Europe were unable to attend (or not comfortable with traveling) - would that be a deal-breaker for your October wedding?

Absolutely!!! My husband's family could not be there in that case. We are postponing!
