Insert card.. Question about wording

*~WiiFeY~*, on April 27, 2011 at 11:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

I'm sticking business cards inside each invite pretty much to send them to our website. I don't feel like putting directions in all the cards, and I know for a fact all of our OOT guests use the internet, so I'd rather just send them to our wedding website.

I want to say:

For directions and more information visit:

weddingwire.com/katieandward

Do I do a comma between information and visit?

For directions and more information, visit:

I don't think the comma should be there but I wanted to be sure before I print them!

I'm going to say yes? If you rearrange the sentence, you get the following:

Visit website for directions and more information.

Other examples that read like that.

Because he loved acting, he refused to give up his dream of being in the movies.

Unless we act now, all is lost.

For more directions, call (916) 351-3527.

But I would love a grammar teacher to tell me what the real answer is.

I'm not exactly a grammar teacher but I'm pretty good at it and Hayley is correct, you do need a comma.

My gut instinct is yes, you do need the comma. I googled the phrase and came across a few sites that used it and the majority of them used the comma as well.

I think the comma should be there. I did something similar in mine, I put something like:

For information on hotel accomodations, map and directions, registry, and all things wedding, please visit our website. (yes I went against etiquette and put a line about registry in there).

I think the comma should be there, but say "please visit" instead of just vist after it.

KK I could be wrong but I think you need a comma....thats a tricky one because beginning the sentence with "for" makes it a prepositional phrase-and most of the time you need a comma in there when you begin with a preposition-I think you are just feeling weird about it because it is a short statement but I still think it should have one.

Hey KK. I'm an actual English Major (I know...rare, right?) and the reason you're having trouble is because the entire phrase is a bit strange. Starting a sentence with the word "for" is always hard to work with. I would say something like:

Please visit our website for additional information:

    weddingwire.com/katieandward

The guests will get the idea that directions are probably on your site, so I don't necessarily think you need to add "and directions" there. However, if you still want to add that, you could put:

Please visit our website for directions and additional information:

    weddingwire.com/katieandward

    Hope this helps.

I would word it as follows:

Please visit our wedding website for directions and other information.

    Love, KK & Beau
