future.mrs.jarosz, on September 18, 2015 at 12:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hey all...

im looking to get married next summer (preferably july) and need a rather inexpensive venue. either a traditional wedding venue on the cheap side or a non-traditional park or barn? any suggestions?! looking to keep the venue cost around $5,000-$6,000 including food and alcohol for about 85 people.

I would look into parks as an inexpensive option. Barns in the Hudson Valley region are not inexpensive options. They market themselves as "destination wedding" locations to people in the city. I looked into a barn south of Albany and the cheapest wedding package they offered was $20,000.

You may be able to find something but maybe outside the Hudson Valley. Have you checked out Spruceton Inn? It's not in the Hudson Valley but in the Catskills. It's an Inn, but they host weddings on site. The inn keeper, Casey, is seriously a gem! If my wedding were smaller in size, I would have had it there.

My venue -- Rustic Ridge View Farm in Kerhonkson, NY -- recently upped their site rental fee (thankfully, we had signed the contract prior). You must bring in everything youself: chairs, tables, linens, dinnerware, bathrooms, decor, food via a caterer. It is the ultimate DIY place! To give you an idea of my costs for EVERYTHING, we will have about 180 people and it will cost roughly $90/person.

ETA: Venues may already be booked for July of 2016. We booked ours in May for our July 9, 2016, wedding, and the farm was already booking up weekends for the summer 2016. Good luck!!

That's a tough order. You're looking for something at 70 ish bucks per person which means you need to start at 55.00 PP to factor in tax and service, which is usually around 28%.

IMHO, that's not doable, especially in the Hudson Valley.
