Just 1 in 10 couples pays for the wedding entirely on their own, according to TheKnot.com!!!!!
I feel like my FH and I are the only couple that I know who are paying for everything entirely on our own.
Any other couples out there doing it?!

My mom also insisted on paying for my dress, but we agreed on a budget, and I was left to pick whatever dress I wanted. She wasn't actually as big of a fan of the dress I ended up picking, because she thinks it's "boring" because it's not lacy or sparkly, but she held to her word that I could pick whatever dress I wanted.

We were fully prepared to pay for our wedding without any financial help from either side. However, both my parents and his ended up giving us money for it. Neither set of parents had “demanded” or requested any special requests when it came to wedding planning. So we were very fortunate to have no strings attached to it. We did still end up paying over 1/2 of our wedding so about $65-70k came out of our pocket.

Oh we could afford more but we are very frugal. Our parents I guess were rare and did not have money set aside for us nor did they offer.

I feel like it's somewhat rare from the bride's side. We (specifically I) have cut all the checks so far, but my parents gave expressed they want to contribute.

A major variable: my parents, like many solid middle class incomes but nothing inherited and mo big incomes, have decided that the kids can choose to spend $200 or $20,000 on a wedding. But without making low enough for much scholarship aid, we 9 kids and my parents felt it more important to at least get the first 4 years of a college education, or other expensive vocational program, like become a pilot and airplane mechanic,
getting out with as little debt as possible. When 4-6 of us were in college or grad school, at once, we saw some scholarship aid. And a few, National Merit or other earned ( by grades or tests ) scholarships paid most of undergraduate provided we worked 30 hours a week while in school, for living expenses. So many people I know, have parents who like us paid all they could right up to second mortgages, figuring if kids get out with less debt, they can earn the money for their own weddings. Several, for kids wanting a start with a business, families have said, you are not going to college. Helping with a licenced trade and equipment , or buying stock for a store, or a restaurant lease, for the young adult, is where they put anything they can afford. My parents and Hubby's were children of WWII refugees. ( our grandparents) Very conscious, you need an education, or a skill you can take with you more than a status or social thing like a fancy wedding.
Those who don't have some money set aside for their kids' weddings, may still have set it aside for another good cause.

We’re paying for everything on our own, even our honeymoon. His parents are paying for the rehearsal dinner but that’s it.

We paid for our own wedding, which included flights, hotel rooms, car rentals and food. We kept the wedding small, only had immediate family. The only thing that was gifted was my 500$ wedding dress mom wanted to buy last minute as I was at the register. The whole thing, not including my dress purchase was $30k

We’re paying on our own too. It’s wonderful having full control and no input from others.
