Incorporating step parents into the wedding.

Zachjumpsthe, on December 18, 2017 at 8:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
I am having a hard time figuring out how to incorporate my step dad into my wedding. I am closer with my step dad then my dad, but my dad is dramatic and plays the victim. I dont want their to be a a scene, but I want my step dad to be included. I also need to find a way to not have to have my stepmom be included, because I am not close ro her.

Perhaps ask your step dad to do a reading?? As for your step mom she doesn't HAVE to be involved if you don't want her to be.

After reading what you said about your father, I don't know how you would be able to incorporate your stepdad without your dad acting out. I'm in the same boat with you where I'm closer to my step dad than my father...because I want 0 drama I am walking myself down the aisle.

Who is walking you? If you DO want your biological dad involved too let one walk you halfway and the other the rest of the way. What about the father daughter dance?

As far as your stepmom just don't include her. Unfortunately OP I am not sure how you can go about this without someone feeling hurt.

I don't have any advice, just wanted to sympathize because I am in the exact same boat. I could have written this post word for word!

I have a stepmom and I Incorporated her into the wedding. What ending up happening was my brother who is a groomsman walked my mother down first then hubby's brother who also was a groomsman walked their mother down and then my brother had walked back up to walk my stepmother down the aisle. I also included her parents in the grandparents part of the ceremony and program.

A step-cousin actually walk down the aisle with both her father and her stepdad. Her step-dad is my step mom's brother and I guess she is closer to her stepdad then her father. Supposedly she had a dance with each father at the reception.

My parents don't have the greatest relationship but they were able to be adults which really surprised me and I was just so happy. Generally most parents will do what they need to do for their kids so I hope that your father gets his act together and acts like an adult.

We did a "thank you" to our parents right after the "greeting" and basically gave the mothers all a personalized handkerchief and the father's each an embroidered pocket square. Perhaps you can do this with all the parents (stepfamily included). I'm sure he can't say anything if they all get the same thing.

I know someone will be hurt. I am either having my dad or my mom and my dad walk me. Are you doing a father daughter dance? I think I will do the dance with my dad, but I will have dad and step dad give a speech.

I never really thought about walking myself down. I think that would make me nervous though.

I’m avoiding this issue by having my mom walk me down the aisle (I’m closer to her anyway) and skipping the father-daughter dance. Unfortunately so many of the wedding traditions do not accommodate modern families.

Sorry this app never notified me that you replied to my comment. No I'm not only because even though I am closer to my stepfather than my father I personally would not feel comfortable dancing with either.

I think your speech idea sounds great OP as well as the dance. At the end of the day it's your wedding and you have to do what you feel comfortable with. Good luck!

I too am closer with stepdad but my real dad says do whatever I want so stepdad is walking me down and real dad is meeting a few rows from the front to both "give me away" and I plan on doing 2 father daughter dances. Step mom isn't really doing anything special other than walking down the isle with my dad after my mom.

I'm having my mom's boyfriend and my father walk me down the aisle. My mom's bf has no kids, and he's been in my life since I was 5 years old, so he's a huge part of my life.

I definitely understand your situation. I'm definitely closer with my mom's boyfriend, he's been more involved in my life than my father, but I wanted to keep the peace, but also make the day memorable fore my fiancé and I.

My dad has a different girlfriend every week, so I did have to have a conversation with him that he will not be inviting a flame of the week to the wedding.

Just remember it's your and your fiancé's day. Do what is important to you both.
