Including my Future Stepson - Need some Good Poems Please

Mrs. B for real :), on May 21, 2012 at 2:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hi Ladies,

So we had our first pre-marital counseling session last week with Dr. Goode (*SUCH* a nice man BTW). We briefly touched on our ideas of the ceremony and we mentioned wanting to make a special place for FH son...

I previously posted about this and had thought about involving him in the sand/water ceremony, but the fact is I'm not sold on those ceremonies either...

Dr. Good suggested he read a poem or piece of Scripture. I LOVE this idea but need some inspiration or suggestions on places to go for inspiration.

FH is not super religious, but his family is, and I wouldn't mind scripture either, but I want to respect him so as long as it isn't too "preach-y" I'm sure it would speak to him too...

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, TIA ladies Smiley smile

BTW--FH son is 12 and very well spoken and polite Smiley smile

Aw! Love the idea of involving him. I know it's on of the standard readings but I love the "love is patient..."

I had the Mr. Rogers song "It's You I Like" read as one of our readings (though I changed things around...like swapped the word like for love)

    It's you I love,

It's not the things you wear,

It's not the way you do your hair--

    But it's you I love.

The way you are right now,

The way down deep inside you--

Not the things that hide you,

    Not your diplomas--

    They're just beside you.

    But it's you I love--

    Every part of you,

Your skin, your eyes, your feelings

    Whether old or new.

    I hope that you'll remember

    Even when you're feeling blue

    That it's you I love,

    It's you yourself,

    It's you, it's you I love.

I'm not super religious though, so I don't think I can help much beyond this. My other niece read Winnie The Pooh love-isms ... which was super sweet as well Smiley smile

You could make a vow to him and give him a token of family unity.
