How did your in-laws react to your engagements? How involved are they in your wedding plans? Excited? Angry? Neutral? Distant?

Ffil told me he already thought of me as part of the family. FMIL said it was about time, and was showing everyone who would listen pictures of my ring lol. But that was all via text. They’re not emotional about anything unless they’re upset. They also live far away

They didnt know we were engaged. We told them we are getting married. No excitement at all. FMIL ABSOLUTELY hates me. She has since we first got together 5 years ago tried breaking us up numerous times. When I was pregnant with our twins she tried saying they werent my FHs kids and that i was a running the streets with numerous guys. She added his exes on Facebook and brings them up every time we go over. They didnt ask for an invite or anything. They actually forgot when we were getting married, asked if we already did and we said no is on the 24th and just said oh..

My mom is super happy and excited. Before we told our parents we planned on getting married she told us we should just get married already lol.

So 5 years, 3 kids, and a cat later we will finally be married in just 3 days.

Same lol. We don't have kids but we have been together for 15 years as well. She burst into tears and hugged me like 6 times. We also got the "finally" and "about time" reaction. She's making the ring bearer pillow and such.

My fiancé called his mom once we got home from the proposal to tell her the good news and her first words were,.... "Oh." She didn't congratulation him, or us, or sound happy at all. She just went on saying she didn't know he was planning on doing that. I think she was pissed off that he surprised her with it.

I sat there in the car and cried at her discontent. She ruined the day for us.

My future FIL congratulated us the next time we saw him and gave me a hug. He's not heartless like his wife.

Hahaha. I don't mean to laugh but your FMIL sounds like my FMIL. She was not happy AT ALL. I guess she's had issues with every one of my FH's girlfriends. The problem is her. She's too controlling, or at least, she was. And I think she didn't want to accept that fact that her youngest son was growing up and leading a life of his own and would be leaving her shortly. Yeah, she's got a lot of issues. Unsurprisngly, we're not close at all. She's not even coming to my bridal shower.

My FILs are awesome! My MIL knew FH was planning to propose but, didn't know exactly when. After he proposed we called to let them know and she was so excited. She started crying and told me that even though she already considers me family she is so proud to make it official. FIL is very happy for us too. He is a big jokester so, keeps trying to "steal" the ring off my finger so, he can trade it in for something practical like a new car. Smiley tongue Even if he won't admit it I know he is super excited though because he introduces me to everyone as his new daughter and has already changed my name in his phone.

My in-laws LOVE me. They were so happy for us. From his parents down to cousins.

They were not involved because it was our wedding, we asked their opinions on things, but all decisions were made by us.

There is no family on my side. But my friends that are like sisters were over the moon.

FMIL was SO excited! He had told her on our visit with her several months before we got engaged that he was going to ask me(he told me this afterwards) so she was expecting it. She started calling me her DIL the day I met her lol

They were so excited! Partly because they have only sons but always wanted a daughter and partly because they never thought FH would settle down enough to get married. I am very lucky to have super supportive and loving FILs!!

His parents have been amazing. They are so excited and they paid for my dress and our rehearsal dinner. My parents were also super excited and are helping with flowers. We are so lucky to have such supportive families.

FMIL is super excited. I invited her to a dress fitting so she could see my dress in person. And she is planning the rehearsal dinner (at a place FH and I agreed). And she and her friend are planning to throw me a wedding shower.

My future in-laws are wonderful! My FMIL knew that FH was proposing way before anyone else because he asked her opinion on the ring. They’re very excited and have been very supportive and helpful! Both his parents (they’re divorced) have been extremely generous by helping pay for the wedding, and they both came to our menu tasting. His mom also came with to see the venue when we booked it, and she came to our cake tasting. I love both his parents, so I’m happy to have them involved!

FFIL: “There’ll be no money coming out of this house for a wedding”. They also told him to stay engaged for three or four years. Um. I’m over 40 and he’s in his late 30s. We’re not kids here.

FMIL isn't very excited. One FH is Vietnamese and she wanted him to marry and Vietnamese woman. Obviously I am not Vietnamese lol. She also wants us to have a big Catholic wedding. We are having a small ceremony on the beach. She cant make our wedding because FSIL will be two weeks away from her due date. So we told her we would do a big reception in a year or so with everyone. She seems ok with that. I showed her a picture of my dress and she just said "oh that's nice" in a flat tone.

My mom is happy. She came with me when I bought my dress but other than that not really involved.

I don't really care. I'm happy and my daughter is happy. To me that is all that matters.

They were incredibly excited! FMIL can’t stop commenting on my photos on Facebook with “I have the prettiest future daughter in law” haha. Makes me happy to know that they too see how good we are together and for each other!

    His parents are divorced

His dads side- each thing completed they have very much faked enthusiasm and made rude remarks about me trying to hard or spending too much money. They had a court house wedding and can't
understand why we wouldn't want to do the same

His moms side- have been very enthusiastic and suportive (emotionally)
Neither side has contributed actual opinions or money but I would rather that than for them to insist on something being their way

My in laws nudged my fiancé to propose when he did. He told me 6 months to a year after living together if we could live together. Lol. He proposed at the 6 month mark and I was shocked. His sister said they nudged him and went ring shopping with him. We were together 7.5 years at the time so it was about time lol. I did have to prove myself those first few years though as he is mama’s boy! The rest of the family was exstatic especially when they found out about his grandparents church we picked and venue in a town his mom and siblings grew up in and still visit.

FMIL knew he was asking and had pictures of the ring ahead of time. When we called to tell her she said can I call everyone and tell them and send them photos? When can I post on Facebook?! To which she hung up and called FSIL. Haha.
FFIL (they’re divorced) is not a very enthusiastic man, but said congrats. He must’ve been excited bc he sent a list of 98 people to invite complete with addresses the next day. FSMIL/ his wife called within a few weeks to ask if she could wear a black ball gown to the wedding and made it clear I could say no if I thought black was taboo.
    I’m so lucky!
