I'm thinking about using labels to address my wedding invitations?

Hannah, on March 4, 2015 at 9:18 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 53

I don't want it to look tacky. Has anyone does this? What website did you use? I should have put them right on the envelopes but I didn't of that until too late.

I did and they looked fine - just get the clear ones and they'll blend into the envelope. I used Avery labels and the free template they offered online. They came out beautifully.

I only have about 55 envelopes to address so i'll just get a nice pen from michaels and write them out

I did. Big deal. And it looks fine...I didn't really have a choice in the matter, but it was a lot easier than handwriting 175 addresses

It's easier but I really think guest appreciate them being hand written. I got more than a handful of reply's that mentioned they appreciated the gesture. It really didn't take long.

If you're worried about handwriting, as I was, print on the envelopes with light font and then write over it.

    Me too!

I did the STD by hand. Not doing that again. I hand cramps for 2 days. No thank you. Labels it is!

I did and used white ones. SO. MUCH. EASIER.

I used the avery.com print & design feature.

I was going to use labels, but instead I decided if I'm going to type all of the addresses in labels why not just print each envelope. I thought they looked amazing. I downloaded a free font online and make a template in word then typed each address in and sent the envelope through the printer. I practiced on the envelopes that came with my invites since I ordered nicer envelopes to actually send them out in. It looks just as much time as labels would and IMO looked nicer. I purchased a stamp at staples with our first names and address and used that for the back flap of the envelope for return address and used the stamp on the rsvp envelope. If you wanted to try this I can email you my word doc since I saved the envelope template. I have it set up for a 5x7 envelope though, so it depends what size yours are.

My cousin in law used labels to address hers and I think I'll be doing the same. I know my guest won't care either way.

Is there a website that does it a fancy way like calligraphy?

I am doing labels, I bought parchment ones. I'm sure you could find a calligraphy font and print directly on the envelope, but I always wonder if the printers can read them. Honestly, people throw the envelope away. I would stress so much about my writing looking lovely and it really isnt worth it.

I'm on the avery website right now. How do I select labels that I can have a different address on each?

The easiest was is to do a mail merge with an excel spread sheet, otherwise you will have to type out each address for each label.

I'm planning to use labels. So much easier, and the envelope just gets thrown out anyways!

I already had all my addresses in Excel so I did a mail merge to make my labels. Then printed them on the avery clear labels.

It's ok to use labels, but personally I don't like the look of labels: Yes, it looks tacky in comparison to calligraphy/hand-written, but it's not rude.

@jillian Exactly what I thought, might as well just print on envelope directly. I haven't done it yet, but seems pretty easy with my printer and word....

Also, yes dafont.com is da bomb. ha!
