I'm so upset!

Kristin, on March 16, 2017 at 7:54 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

Yesterday I went for my first dress fitting and got told I needed to lose weight. It's not much. The way my dress is, it zips up about half of my back then buttons rest of the way. We got it zipped just fine we just can't get it buttoned. Seamstress told me a 100 times I needed to lose weight. I've been wanting to lose weight so maybe this is my motivation? I just hate I HAVE to do it to be able to fit into my dress.

That's upsetting, you didnt take measurements before ordering the dress?

Your seamstress shouldn't have been rude and told you that you had to loose weight. She should be able to do the alterations to ensure that your dress fits you properly and not be mean about it.

With everything going on right now in our world in regards to women, we shouldn't be cutting each other down. This makes me so mad.

Usually they will take measurements before ordering your dress. Can they let it out any? Maybe go to a different seamstress that isn't as rude. You have 2 months for your wedding, you can do it.

Is it possible to let it out? I would of been livid if my alterations person told me I needed to loose weight. That is so rude, what if you or anyone had a health condition or was on medication that made them gain weight or simply prevented them from loosing weight. I second APD we should be supporting and lifting each other up not cutting each other down.

The sample dress I tried on when I picked out the dress was a little small so they ordered the next size. Idk if I gained weight since? It's not a HUGR difference. First time she said it is was like ok. Then she kept saying it. I was starting to get aggravated. She said most of it is in my bust area. But how do you lose weight in your bust?

Sadly Kristin, when I started losing weight I lost it in my face and my boobs first before anything else. Plus I lost a lot of back fat so I lost a lot around that area. But IMO the sample sizes are tried on so many times they are so stretched out/worn out. I tried on a size 16 and it fit perfectly in some areas and a little loose in my chest area, but we ordered that size. I just picked it up and it was so tight I wondered if they ordered the wrong size... nope I'll have to lose more weight so I can even sit down in it.

ETA I got my dress at DB too

Are you using DB for alterations?

I would have bitch slapped that person to within an inch of her life. And I would call the store and complain about her. That is unacceptable behavior.

No I'm not using davids bridal for alterations. Closet store is hour half away and I didn't want to drive that far every time for a fitting! I picked it up and took it to someone closer. She's the only one that does alterations close to where I live. Besides telling me I need to lose weight we know she has to take off some for length and she's making a French bussle. She's German so she's very outspoken. I just have to work hard on getting myself to lose weight. I bought a weighted fitness hoop and some weights. It just sucks I have a small time frame!

She should never had said that to you, good lord what is wrong with her? I would complain about her and she should have been giving you suggestions on how she could alter the dress to fit your size not talking down to you!

Agree with @FutureMrs....if you lose fat the first places you'll lose it from is arms, face, bust. Where it is least needed.

I'm sorry she treated you this way. Stay safe with your eating and exercise routine. Maybe a doctor could help with suggestions of how to lose a little weight. That is, if the dress can't be altered.

    Totally rude and unnecessary.

Could the issue be your bra? Do you think shapewear would make a difference? Worst case scenario, could the zip/buttons mix be replaced with a corset? I had a corset back put on my dress, and it makes a huge difference in terms of fit.

I'm sorry she told you this, it is angering when they talk like this! She is just being blunt I'm sure but nonetheless! Anyways, to try to help you out (and I'm not saying you have to lose weight necessarily!) Try incorporating weight training into your exercise regime if you can. I'm not sure how much she says you "need to lose" but back exercises may help. You can't target weight loss but it may help to change the composition that's there. No guarantee it will look though.

She said with the way my dress is made in the back lots of lace and beads there is no way to put a corset. It'll ruin the dress and possibly make it fall apart. I'll try and find a pic of the back!

    What @APD and @Celia said.

I'm so sorry this happened. I really think you should call the store manager and complain about this seamstress's comments. What she said is totally unacceptable, not just rude.

ETA: After you do that, you should take your dress to a more professional seamstress and I am sure they will be able to come up with a solution for you!

I would find a new seamstress or go back to DB for alterations. She was rude and sounds lazy.
