Hello my Fiance and I are getting married 10-31-2015

His favorite holiday is Halloween and mine is Day of the Dead (nov 1)

Being that halloween is on a saturday in 2015 this made the timing perfect.

I'm not going for kitchy and literal halloween but more of black, purple, and silver accents with maybe a few pumpkins (think moonlit eveninng under the stars mixed with phantom of the opera). I hate flowers and it being fall was going to go with led-branches and alot of silver leaves and silver painted pumpkins and tons of candles. Is it okay to not have flowers. My bridesmaids are going to hold lanterns and flower girls will scatter silver fall leaves down the aisle. I dont mind having costumes at the reception but was going for more of a masquerade type feel, how should I phrase the dress code? I also dont want to wear a costume but still want to dress up so I'm going with a cape theme for my BM's and I. Here are some pics of my dress, BM dresses, and cape I will wear

Thanks for the ideas Smiley smile I was not trying to dictate what anyone wore, just looking for how to phrase it on the invitations. "Costumes welcome but not required may be simple enough to work." Fortunately all the children that would have left to trick or treating are all part of my wedding party and the wedding is very child friendly, I'll have a photo booth, costume/mask table, caramel apple and smore's bar etc... Smiley smile

I think providing the masks would be fun. I went to a pirate themed wedding, and I can't remember the wording on the insert, but it was inviting the guests to play dress up and everyone did and it was a lot of fun. I think her invitation was fun all around and kept the theme, so it wasn't like it was randomly put somewhere that she wanted people dressed as pirates. By the time you got to the insert, you kind of understood.

I would simply say "costumes welcomed" if anyone has any questions, they can ask lol

I was also thinking instead of a costume table , to use just black silver and purple party masks ontop of the charger plates at the place settings.

I would either decide to welcome costumes or decide to do masquerade...i wouldn't do both, IMO.
