I'm driving myself crazy because i don't think what i want is going to work!

We thought we wanted a 1920s wedding. We love the style, the era, the fun theme, I don't want a traditional dress. I thought I wanted something that would match a 1920s theme. However, none of them are really working for me. I'm short. I'm not thin. Adam wanted to wear a fedora and something less formal than a tux. I think I am pretty dead set on a navy dress. I like vintage looking clothes. I know I can do a Navy dress and he can wear what he wants and we don't have to go TOO themey...but can anyone think of a time-period/fun theme? My brain was so 1920s that I am having a hard time thinking of other options. I really like the colors we picked Navy/Gold/Black/White. I wonder if we should just do something vintage/romance with a little bit of sparkle and glam. Anyone have any fun theme ideas? Any ideas? Any pictures? Just looking for options. Oh, and our venue is very very light blue.

Don't discount the 1920s theme just yet! We did a 20s/30s/Gatsby themed engagement party and had so much fun with it.

I'm not a classic 1920s shape either but I got a dress from an Etsy seller called Gatsby Lady - she caters to all shapes and sizes and her dresses are simply stunning, the hand beading is so intricate. I honestly couldn't believe the quality of them for the price. She is based in London UK but does free worldwide shipping https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Gatsbylady?ref=shop_sugg

My FH wore a 1920s style collarless shirt with braces and two tone shoes which would work for a groom as well instead of full formal dress

We also got some fab Gatsby style invites made up by an Etsy seller

You can have so much fun with centrepieces and décor with this theme too :-)

I think you and FH should do what you both want. Don't discount a dress or a theme because you don't fit a certain "standard" of "beauty". They're completely unrealistic and unattainable. A navy dress would be beautiful, regardless of your shape and height!

Thanks for that link. She does have some beautiful stuff. My issue would be not being able to try things on.

    How about the fifties?
    That was a fun era.

Have you tried ModCloth? Or Unique Vintage? That would let you order a few options, try them on, and then return whatever didn't work for you. With Unique Vintage you can even filter by decade Smiley smile

I thought about that too. I love the 50s. The 50s style clothing likes my body. However, it clashes with what I am seeing in my mind which is what is driving me insane.

I THINK I want vintage/romance with a hint of glam.
Adam wants to do a fedora and vest.

I am pretty sure I want a navy dress.

Just trying to mesh it all.

I think a fedora and vest fits 50s style really well. Check out this link: https://chicvintagebrides.com/grooms-groomsmen-1950s-wedding/

Okay. I will concede that you're right. I do have a fit and flair dress that I bought a few years ago before out outdoor wedding venue fell through and then we had a whole bunch of "life happens" happen. I should try it on again and see how I feel about it now.

What about an old Hollywood look? The blue dresses you posted definitely fit with that.

Now...someone mentioned 50s. I already own this. Would this work for vintage romantic 50s era? And with him wearing his vest and fedora? Sorry it’s a little gappy in the top. I can’t get the corset right alone.

They are gorgeous. I'd need something with a smaller heel, but yep. I'm thinking that would be nice.
