Ideas on fun, unexpected additions to reception

Lexi, on September 12, 2019 at 8:15 PM Posted in Planning 2 17
We came across some extra money for our wedding and are trying to figure out what additions we could make to our ceremony or reception that are either fun, extravagant, or would wow the guests. Yes, we should probably put that money towards something more useful but let’s pretend that’s not happening. Ideas?! What are you having at your wedding that you’re excited about that you think we need too?!

If we had extra money we were considering doing nitrogen ice cream. The whole process is so fun to watch! I have also heard good things about what’s called a magic mirror for a photo booth. You could always do a really cool send off as well. Something like a Cinderella carriage or a cool car ect.

I would totally go with a vintage car send off. My dad is a big gear head so I know he would get a kick out of it.

A fun sendoff, a photo booth, some type of snack bar (guests can take home goodie bags), a seasonal drink/treat station, a cool photo backdrop

I love all these ideas!! I'm having a magic mirror photo booth and they are really cool!! Your guests would love it and you could get a photo book and have the booth print out an extra pic of each photo taken to put in the book and then have your guests sign it, that's what I'm doing!!
Also, you could add a cool food or dessert station, they have alot of really awesome choices for that!!
You could upgrade your guest favorites or even have a special band or singer perform!!
You could upgrade your entrance as a couple or upgrade your send off!!
I'm sure whatever y'all choose will be amazing and your guests will be talking about it forever!!
Good luck with everything!! & Congratulations!!

Second live band! We hired a fiddler band to play lively renaissance music.

We had a live event painter! And he was seriously amazing! After the ceremony (which he came to watch) he gathered us and our families, each of our parents along with the two of us chose a color and helped smear them around together to creat the “base”

he brought the canvas along with easel to the reception where he painted the reception as it unfolded! He captured us dancing with our parents, my sister looking out the window, my mom dancing, my aunt and uncle! Seriously it was the best investment! Guests were given a chance to sign the back and sometimes add bits of paint to the canvas. There were a few times we looked around and the dance floor was empty and he had a crowd around him watching him paint!

He finished at the end end of the reception, took it away to seal and has already delivered it back to us. We have had so many people tell us how much they loved it and how unique it was

We decided to go with dance floor lighting to play up the party vibe. Maybe something like that or honestly a popcorn cart haha

I've heard guests rave about snack bars, like smores bar, cheesecake bar, chocolate fountains, etc.

You know what I was hoping to get for mine but ultimately didn't? A MAGICIAN aha. I went to a wedding where a magician was there performing tricks and I loved it.

We are going to have a fire pit with maybe a smores section, lawn games and paper games/activities they can do at the table. Maybe spend the money on your honeymoon that is specifically going to you two? Theres lots you could buy but it could be a wate of money too. Be careful!

Do you share a particular hobby/passion with your FS? Or do you have a cultural tradition you haven't been able to incorporate?

I've seen couples hire musicians/dancers/performers unique to their heritage, or pull in mascots from their favorite teams...

DH and I incorporated a stage combat skit into our reception (though that didn't cost a lot of money, as we are actors and so are all our friends). It was something special and unique to us.

(Hiring our favorite mascot would have been awesome, as well, if improbable, as he is belongs to a different city.)
