Ideas for thank you presents for parents?!

Julie, on April 23, 2016 at 8:12 AM Posted in Planning 1 11

Our parents are paying for the majority of our wedding. And I know it's tradition to buy something for the parents. However, what do we get them? My parents are pretty easy going and don't expect much. However, they are paying about $15,000 so I want to get them something great. I was thinking some tickets to some buffalo sabres hockey games? Now, my future in laws are a little more difficult. If we don't get something nice or expensive enough, my MIL will make it super awkward. Can't do jewelry because she has a TON that she never wears. And they don't like sports like my parents. And they don't really vacation much. They are home bodies.

I like the hockey game idea. My parents are paying a hefty amount towards my wedding, so I plan on gifting them a golfing trip. They are huge golfers. For you FILs, what about a photo album?

My parents are paying for the wedding, we have talked about thanking them with a little weekend B&B getaway or a winery tour, something they can experience. We are totally stuck on FHs parents. theyre difficult to buy for anyway.

You can book a spa day for them, buy personalized handkerchiefs, buy something related to a hobby you share with them or that they have, if you are creative you can make something for them.

If you are interested in the hankies, I got mine off of BridalEmbroideryMegs on Etsy.

Ugh I have a FFIL who is like that...so I empathize. We're not doing terribly expensive gifts, but we're trying to go the really thoughtful route like really nice cigars and humidor for FH's father, wine from my moms favorite winery in napa valley (they vacationed there). So for the in-laws, maybe think along those lines? They must enjoy something!

You could do a nice bottle of wine, or a nice scotch and rocks glasses. We're buying all sets of parents a fancy picture frame, then we'll put a wedding photo in it after the wedding.

I definitely think what Lindsey said ^ something they can use, something personal and sweet. We are probably going that route for our parents, since I know they won't want us spending a lot of money on them.

You can also do an experience! My FILs aren't contributing very much financially, but they have been such a great support, so as a thank you for their help I am going to treat my MIL to a spa day and my FH will spend the day with his dad and then maybe all go out for a nice dinner. We don't live nearby them, so quality time is always good.

Please change your avatar to something other than the rings (this is different from the background pic on the app). It will help you get more responses to your posts, help other brides get to know you, and it makes the threads easier to read. We got my father an expensive picture frame with room for six photos, we filled two of the slots with thank you notes (hand written), two slots with photos of us together (dad me and FH) and the last two are for wedding photos to come. For our mothers we got necklaces and personalized handkerchiefs. They have sweet poems on them with our wedding date. Etsy is your friend!!
